Hello.

I am new. I have problem with ML install in first step.
How to know if my EOS 70D is A or B version?
I don't know if i need to install Download Alpha5 release for 70D_111A  or Download Alpha5 release for 70D_111B?

I just know it is 70D(W).

Thank you very much!

Hi Henry, and welcome!
Please try to install 70D_111A...  If it is the correct one, it will install successfully, if it is not the correct one for your camera, it will tell you, and you can install 70D_111B at that point.

Version B seems to work well on an old camera. At some point I got a crash, but I forgot what that was. I will try to reproduce. DUAL ISO seems to work well.

Hey guys, I've been using ML for timelapses for a while on my 70D, like some other features like :focus peeking , histogram ETC. Can't get the dual ISO working. Have ML 111 Feb 2015 version.
Could someone walk me through on how to make it happened ? Thank you in advance for your attention.

Canon 70D DUAL ISO
« Reply #905 on: May 02, 2015, 09:40:56 AM »
Just wanted to share my DUAL ISO experimentation with my 70D -  thank you to the Magic Lantern developers who are working hard to port ML to 70D!  Very happy playing around with the DUAL ISO  :)

F/2.2  @ 0.5 seconds  (taken with 50mm 1.4 lens); DUAL ISO = 200/3200
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwB_poTzzVK8Y3JOQ2NmSExIMFE/view?usp=sharing

F/11  @  2 seconds (50mm 1.4 lens);  DUAL ISO = 200/1600 (toned down the ISO)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwB_poTzzVK8SHJER2hoSVdGNWc/view?usp=sharing

I'll try to google how to display my image directly on this page instead of just providing a link..

BTW my ML is not even the latest one - it is from the March Alpha4B build :)  I bet the newer builds must be even more awesome :)

True. I second that and also still wating for a fix to be able to use Arrow Key functions (there's no buttons configured to enabled it) as well as being able to change exposures during RAW video recording. Hopefully that's not the limitation of the 70D.

I also agree w @chrisfrancia regarding being able to use log files after recording Raw video (however, you can still dive into its metadata if recorded in MLV) but still would be a +1 for Raw.

w00t I thought I fixed that - at least it was working then. I need to recheck that:

Ok confirmed as not to be working. Trying to fix it later. As far as I recall I also played around with gui button definitions. Looks like I missed those while committing above.

I have an issue with the Alpha 5 A build, in Playback mode the Touchscreen sometimes freezes while zooming in. I have to leave Playbackmode to get the Touchscreen working again. It doesn´t matter if Quickzoom is enabled or not. It sometimes just freezes.

So after sensor cleaning, still find ISO 3200 has too many hot pixels to be useful.  At 1824x766 @ 2.35, 24 fps I was able to get 16s clip.
ISO 1600 is better, as I find fewer hot pixels 5 or less.  However this requires post processing to fix.  The good news is that once you fix a frame,
the hot pixels tend to repeat so you can reuse your wire correction fix in AE.  ISO 800 very usable, 0-1 hot pixels.  ISO 400 and lower I get clean results.

Its probably the sensor being heated, thats causing the hot pixels. Not sure if ML could help here (would need a kind of pixel remap, that kicks in after 10s exposure with ISO3200).

Would love to know if anyone is able to shoot raw ISO 3200, into shadows without hot pixels for length of clip.  Try 1824x766 @ 2.35 for max res.
No problem with ISO3200 raw pics, just the video.  But I expect long exposures will yield same hot pixel results.

H264 shot flat will get you into the ISO 3200,  in shadowy areas without hot pixels.  If you shoot flat, you can get good shadow detail, also shooting with a higher bit rate helps with detail.

Next up is to try hi. res. dual ISO video, with 3200 & lower ISO to see if alternating ISO can prevent hot pixels.
** April 25th B version: dual iso video is NOT working.  I get wierd colours like a colorization effect is on. **  The shutter keeps changing as well **

Not exactly a few minutes of my time but please read the forums.

Also keep in mind that Dual ISO currently works only for Photo mode on 70D (as you notice in my clip above) while there's progress that still needs to be done for video mode (RAW/MLV) until then...

Try A first, if fails then it will tell you to use B instead.

I've been trying out the dual_iso (Apr23 70D111B) and the windows Cr2hdr from the 1st page and I'm not sure its working correctly.

My understanding/experience with dual ISO on my EOS M is that a dual iso image should be look like a lower ISO image but with extra latitude to raise the exposure and/or lift the shadows without them being too noisy.  However my 70D converted DNGs are all coming out over exposed and look exactly like the higher ISO image.  I don't think they are being either recorded or converted correctly.  I think winfel reported a similar problem a few pages ago.

To demonstrate I took a series of shots with my eos M and 70d at 100,800, and dual 100/800.  I used the same lens and settings with only the ISO changing and this is with no changes to exposure or shadows... right to JPG and then combined.

Anyone else notice something similar?
