@Austux

        Glad you brought that up. I just tested on mine & it stopped @ 29:59

@Walter Schulz

        There is no mention of the 70D @ http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=14644. So maybe a simple Not Yet might have been nice.

You missed to mention if you used H.264 or RAW recording.

Just started using  version 111B, all going well so far.

First (probably obvious) question: how do you get ML menu to stay on without switching back to LV screen after a few seconds? I could not find a setting for this.

Thanks in advance...

I have the same question. If I am on Video Mode or LiveView, the ML MenĂ¹ escape after 5 second.

H.264    & I have Movie Restart On ( It was 1 of the many items I turned on on my 1st trip through the ML Menu)  ~

You may want to point out what is wrong in linked text/thread, so I might be able to add your corrections into my post.

EDIT: Saw your "Movie Restart ON" edit. You used 1080p25 PAL? Have you tried MLV with fps turned to a low value?

yes, same on 6D. We are only able to hide it while using wheel (keyword: UNAVI).

   Austux asked ~

"Is it possible for Magic Lantern to turn off (or raise, past maybe two hours) the 29min59sec firmware limit on video recording length in the 70D?"

   & it appeared that you responded with ~

http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=14644

   I was curious about the link so I went there & found no reference to the 70D. So was trying to point out that it didn't seem that you had

properly answered Austuxs question.

   I then decided to test MovieRestart on my 70D & found that it does not seem to be Working as the Vid' Stopped @ 29:59.

   So here is My version of the question ~ Is Movie Restart supposed to be Working on the 70D-111 A &/or B?

ok slightly off topic to this ML version but is related  (and not answered on the 1st post)

in the UK we use PAL aka 1080p/720p 25fps
in the US they use NTSC 30fps
(forget 29.97 and 24 etc i'm talking 70D here)

The 70D will not go lower than 1/30 in movie so it's obviously designed for NTSC with a pull down arrangement added for PAL

My question: would we in PAL regions not be better to shoot in NTSC 30fps with 1/30th sec shutter and then pulldown in AE/Premier etc?
I ask as we can get RAW 720p 25 or 30 within SD bandwidth
Even further would be, if shooting for the web why not just stay in a 30fps / 1/30th workflow all the way? (with i7s and SSDs the days of cutting every unneeded frame and Hz aren't worth it any more plus HD means PictureAlwaysLousy and NeverTheSameColour is really all it means now)

anyone done much testing?I ask as is there any point in keeping any PAL/25fps ML settings in a camera that won't shoot at 1/25 or 1/50 etc anyway?

chrisfrancia

@Smarty Pants,

To start to answer your questions I feel it necessary to correct a problem with your selecting of shutter speed. The rule of thumb for shutter speed is double the reciprocal. So for 30 fps the shutter speed would be 1/60. For 25fps the shutter speed would be 1/50 (or closest available option on camera). This is why the 70D shutter will not go under 1/30 in movie mode, not because of a NTSC design (although I can't say for sure the camera is or is not geared toward NTSC)

I also believe, youtube previously converted basically anything that was not 30fps to 30fps itself

As for your actual question,
I believe it is mostly personal preference, if you shoot all your stuff at 25fps you would be able to put your stuff on DVD's and stuff in PAL land and get a almost filmic look on youtube. I believe.

It's mostly a matter of preference as far as I know. After all films are/were typically 24fps but eventually ended up on TV's and other mediums so they ended up being turned into 30fps and look fine so it would be acceptable for you to do the same. However, if you find this 'style', 'jitter', or what not bothers you then technically your best bet is likely 30fps for youtube, even in PAL land, as far as I know.

You should edit and export at whatever framerate you shoot at for youtube. However, you should de-interlace if you happen to be using an interlaced camera (not in the 70D case).

This page will help you.

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en

(Also if the camera is shooting at 29.97, 24.97, or 23.976, you should not round these frame rates off as you will slowly build an audio desync)

Also should discuss this else where as has hardly anything to do with magic lantern in any way

@OlRivrRat:

You can try @Danne's latest cr2hdr-r beta app which works well on Mac's.

Be sure to read through that thread thoroughly!
