3D with DSLR's

Folks I've been filming a 3D online series for just over a year now with twin DSLR's with ML how ever getting both 550's to start recording video at exactly the same time is difficult to say the least. For 3D it is vital they both start at the same time or you get some visual issues so anyone any idea on how to achieve it. Currently I use a digital clapper board and then sync L & R video tracks in editing but unfortunately thats only accurate to an exact frame and more often that not we are talking about a fraction of a frame difference which I can't compensate for.

Anyone at ML fancy coming up with some form of linking two cameras via the remote plug socket or similar?
Probably the only person daft enough to try 3D but I'd really appreciate a solution or an addition of time code to the video perhaps?

This might help to give someone an idea there is a way with 5D's here http://www.3dfilmfactory.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=93:gen-lock-canon-5d-mark-ii-cameras-and-shoot-3d&catid=42:press not really a true gen lock sync but appears to work. Unfortunately with 550's it won't work.

Perhaps you could rig up a remote trigger splitter that starts the video recording with a half press of the shutter? If the signal is being sent from a single remote into both cameras simultaneously, it seems to me they would be in sync. It would be a fairly cheap experiment, even if it does not work, you won't lose much.
