Hey guys, I ordered the 128gb 1050x cf card by Komputer bay and it works... but...

I can't reliably record the mlv format with audio at 1920x1080 24p.

50% of the time I can get it to record but skips a frame once it gets to 4gb and needs to start the next file.

The other times its un reliable how many frames ill get. And it  never gets past the 4gb mark.

At the res 17xx I can record over 4gb. Ive recorded 4 minutes of video and audio at the res. (Haven't tried to test farther than that.)

Ive hears the 32 and 64gb cards from Komputerbay are faster than the 128gb.  I'm just trying to find the realistic performance of the cards.

Can I press record... with global draw on/off. And record till the card is full at 1080p raw on these smaller cards?

And also the cf buffer option I've got at default. Os there a certain setting to find on those to make it more stable?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will probably find that your CPU is not at 100% with resolve because I'm pretty sure the GPU is taking care of it.

My laptop only has a crappy GT525m (96 cuda cores) but the CPU is an i7 quad. and I can encode at about 8fps in resolve with CPU at 30%, and I think that AE is around 2-3 fps and the CPU is maxed out.

I still need to test on my desktop which has a GTX 680 with 1536 cuda cores but a slower than the laptop (Core2Quad 3.0ghz) and see how that goes.  I'll report back when i test.

Wow. It would be great to use this tech for raw to acr to jpg sequence. I've got a gtx 680 which would be blazing fast.

Raw Video Postprocessing / DNG to ProRes
January 04, 2014, 03:19:10 AM
Fastest quality encoder that uses Adobe Camera Raw engine and then converts the DNG sequence straight to Prores HQ 422/444.

Here is what I would like to do

1. Convert .RAW files from CF card right to separate DNG folders per clip. and put a 50% preview proxy video in the folder (Cineform probably since its almost instant)
2. Open the first DNG file in the sequence and do the corrections needed. (then close photo shop)
3. Open a utility/converter where i can select the DNG folder and it will read the first DNG as the master and then link the sequence to the rest of the files in the sequence.
4. have Conversion options for different ProRes or DNxHD formats that will convert quickly(not like AE which takes FOREVER compared to other converters)

OR

The best case for me would be to have an app that can look at the CF card, pull the first frame from the .RAW or .MLV files selected.. then open them in Adobe Camera RAW editor (in photoshop or on its own if thats possible) and use them as the reference correction.  Once done correcting, press DON on ACR and close photoshop. And go back to the app and press "convert" and it will do whatever extraction required in to a temp folder and then convert to a ProRes file into a designated destination folder.

I've been trying out Bachelor, RawAnizer, EyeFrame, Lightroom, AE, Photoshop, Go Pro Cineform, Raw2DNG... just haven't found something worth using for quality to speed.  If Cineform can take a RAW file and convert it to cineform 422 at about 100fps or faster I'd hope the find something that could use the Adobe camera RAW editor and convert it to ProRes at something like 30-50fps instead of 5-10 fps.

Please help.

I have updated RAW2GPCF to support larger Log curves for a flatter look.  Previous only -l255 was the largest, now up to -l65535 works, although -l900 is the highest recommended.

Thanks! I'll test it tomorrow. :-)

Raw Video / 24p vs 60p data rate in RAW
December 12, 2013, 03:18:12 AM
Hello, Just wondering why the capable data rate of my 5d3 goes down about 20-25mb/s when doing 60p in RAW.  on 1920x1080 24p its hovers around 85-90mb/s and records continuous NP.

When i set it to 60p it says my capable data rate is only about 70-75.. so i have to down scale to about 1500xXXX.. I was hoping that i could at least stay at 1600xXXX which looks to be a similar data rate as 1920x1080 24p.

Are there any other modulars or options i can apply to make the capable data rate the same as the 24p setting?

to clarify I'm not asking why 60 fps uses more mb/sec at 1920x1080.. I'm wondering why the camera says my cards data rate goes from 95mb/s to 70mb/sec when i switch from 24 to 60fps.

Thanks for the help.

@DANewman - SOrry if you have already answered this somewhere else, but what would be the best switch settings to convert the RAW files to something like "SLog2" from Sony, or something that is just a very flat at the start format.. but still maintaining all data(or as much as possible depending on RAW, 444 or 422)

Thanks!

It would be really cool to have an "options" for cineform that has some pre loaded switches... and then also have a "custom" action that you can add your own switches in that will apply on all the footage that needs to be encoded.

I tried to just edit the INI config file with the switch but it doesn't work.

Rawnaizer has this type of feature but i cant get it to encoded from CF card to a folder on my computer.  I have to copy it to my computer first then do the conversion in the same folder. (unless someone has info on how to do that with Rawanizer)

I'm trying to figure out the differences and improvements that .mlv has mode over the first .raw format.  Does it use the same data rate? looking for some sort of comparison if possible.

Thanks

@jonnyginese You may already know this: if you use the 'raw2gpcf' on the command line you can set up all your own custom switches for output to Cineform; say:

raw2gpcf D:\Source.raw E:\Output.mov -444 -l400 -d2 -q5

etc.

:)

What does the -l400 and -d2 do? And why would you just want to keep the file raw instead of -444?
#36
how do i set an output folder that i want all my processed Cineform files to go?
#37
Is it possible to setup an INI or something to use a specific "switch" commands for CineForm?  it looks like its set to -c right now or something but I'd like to get it set to -q5 or something depending on the project.

Is there a plan to implement ML RAW or MLV native import into this software? It would be amazing to be able to drag my days shoot into GP CF editor from my CF card and convert from the card onto my computer.  This format seems to be the best option.

I also get an error every time i try to import the DNG files "corrupt or un supported" but then after converting it plays work seems to work properly.

From what this post says.
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5479.55;wap2

It looks like the default conversion for cineform is Cineform RAW if you have no switches activated. Is there anyway to verify what format the file is after its rendered?
#40
Does anyone know how to make this render put to cineform Raw instead of 422 or 444 and also set the color space to what was show in camera(is sRGB)? Also, once rendered, is there a specific plugin in available or in premiere that will give a similar editing tool set as the adobe raw editor?
#41
I like this a lot. Is it possible to use Adobe Camera Raw editor instead of the DCRaw editor?  for some reason the dcraw app is sluggish and I can't get the same look that I'm used to compared to the Adobe one.

Also, is there a way to change the settings on Cineform before rendering?

jpeg burst at higher res like the "S" size of jpeg or the "M" size? at 30 and 24p?

The "S" size of jpeg on the 5D3 is something like 2880x1920. which should be smaller in mb than the 1080p raw images we can get now at 30fps.

... If this can happen, then it might be possible to get something around 1080p with jpeg at a sustainable 60fps.

If this isn't working maybe i don't work maybe i don't understand how the RAW recorder works... I was under the impression that it records shutter less frames at a specified FPS and resolution into a DNG? If it were possible to do this into a JPEG then the resolution could go much higher i would think at 24p and up to 60p since the size is way smaller.

Kinda curious what 1.2.3 has. Is there any way to back up the firmware before downgrading it to an older one?

This is why I asked this. ha.

And it doesn't look like the link is working for the 1.1.3. off that site. is there another link?
#44
So its impossible to put the camera in the same more as raw video... But use jpeg? And then choose one of the predefined image sizes.
#45
So now that we have the RAW development going in burst mode. How hard would it be to do a shutterless burst style recording in jpeg mode. In terms of data rate I'd think we should be able to record 120fps at 1080 and 24/30fps at about full/half res(2.5k to 5k).

What do you guys think?
#46
I just got a 5d3 in the mail... And it has firmware 1.2.3... Which is odd because the newest one on the canon website is only 1.2.1.

I'm guessing I need to downgrade.. Have the ML guys looked at 1.2.3 to see if any new goodies have been unlocked? I think that 1.2.1 was when clean HDMI came out.

anyways, I have the KB 1050x card and would like to do raw. I want to setup an SD card to boot ML so that I can clean format the CF card after dumbing the footage. Do I need to get an older firmware to downgrade? If so where can I get it?

Thanks guys

General Help Q&A / USB to audio line adapter on 60D
September 01, 2013, 04:40:26 AM
Hey guys,  I made one of these cables on my own using the Canon cable and it works.. except.. when I'm monitoring.. if the volume IN level goes above half way the output to the headphones is very scratchy.  I've tried mulitple mics and headphones.. and this sound isn't replicated on the actual recording.   Am i doing something wrong or is this how it is.

I've used 2 different Lapel mics, Rode video mic and the on camera mic
Audio-technica M50s and ipod headphones.

All have the same scratchy/distorted sound if the meter starts to just tap the GREEN on the mic VU meter.

Anyways, any help would be awesome.

Thanks.

What about something like this http://www.misco.co.uk/Product/162271/StarTech-com-Bi-Directional-SATA-IDE-Adapter-Converter

Looks like cf is a form of ide 40/41 pin out.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: > 1.3x CBR?
September 16, 2012, 05:55:24 PM
Is there a way to set the camera to record mono... and lower the audio bit rate? The only thing I use the on board sound for is to sync to my h4n with plural eyes... if it was mono instead of stereo the audio bit rate bandwidth would halved.. and if the quality could be lowered to something like 128khz or 64khz it might free up some bandwidth for the video.

I'm looking for a card to record at 2.0 with audio... my sandisk 30mb barely does 1.3... I guess I could try a 45mb... also, does the t3i support the uhs-1 speeds?

And thoughts?
