This isn't a deal site but there might be many interested... Amazon (at least US) has SanDisk 45MB/s 32GB, 64GB & 128GB cards on sale.  I've been following the 32GB and it is about $5 off what it normally is.  Great time to buy if you have been considering the upgrade to 720p RAW on the 650D.

Hello dngrhm,

I see you have the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 STM lens.
Did you already try to film something with this lens in ML Movie Crop mode?
I experience short pauses in the recording when using this lens in crop mode during moving or panning.
Would you be so kind to test a few seconds with this lens while moving the camera fast? (like in sweeping / shaking / fast panning)

Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFKlpw7m5xk
I am still running on 1.0.1  I will try this when I get a chance to update to 1.0.4 and build the 650D.104 ML

Hi Walter thx for the fast Questions,i dont understand!?

u say

"Therefore you need a card < 64 GB once to pass this limitation. After initialising the camera you can run ML from your 128 GB card."

and then u say

"Therefore: No card with ML software on it -> ML is not running."

- and how i unstill ML,Clearly?
- Can i use then 8 or 16gb Card to install only ML and after that i can use my 128GB Card and ML is working???

My English is not well, maybee here is a German guy who can help me.

regards
You need to use your 8GB or 16GB card for the initial "install" of ML.  The smaller cards are required for running the firmware update to set the camera bootflag (THIS IS NOT THE FIRMWARE UPDATE TO 1.0.4).  From the instructions in the OP
"8. Start camera in M photo mode and run firmware update. THis will run the ML setup and make your card bootable too."
This is the update using 650D.104.installer.fir
After this initial update of the firmware to set the bootflag on the camera, you do NOT need to do a firmware update again.  You can install ML on the 128GB and set the bootflag on the card using EOSCard or MacBoot.  Put in the 128GB and ML will be loaded.  Any card without ML on it and the bootflag (on the card) not set will not run ML.

To say it another way, there are 2 bootflags.  One on the card and one on the camera.  You only need to set the bootflag on the camera once and the SD card used to do that must be 32GB or smaller.  After that is set, you must set the bootflag on each card you use.  Put ML on larger cards and set the bootflag on the card using EOSCard or MacBoot.  Your camera will run ML when that card is installed

If you set the bootflag on the card, you MUST have ML on the card or the camera won't appear to work.

I think ML can be loaded on the 64.  It just takes a different approach.  There is a video on the web about this (putting ML on a 64 gig SD card).  I have been traveling so I have not had time to do this.  When I get a sec I will do this a post a method if someone else has not done this in the mean time.

dave

Modification.  thanks nonomand!!
The issue with >32GB cards is not loading ML on them, but using them in running the initial firmware update fir file that sets the bootflag on the camera.  Is this what you are talking about?

Once the fir file has been run, you can use a >32GB card with ML on it.

:o perhaps a stupid question but after make a raw video how open it on computer ?
???

and when I want to make a video, my 650D record only 1 second and after stop automaticully ???

Thank's for your answer :)
RAW Video defaults to the highest resolution which will only record for a second.  Back off the resolution to 720p24 for continuous recording with a SanDisk 45MB/s card (or better) (results as stated elsewhere... I don't have a 45MB/s card yet)

RAW video and especially the post processing of it is a VAST topic for discussion elsewhere in this forum.  List of threads on post-processing link below.  Many threads are about RAW processing.

Great! How do you set it to record RAW? Is there a guide somewhere,

Thanks!!  ;)
Load the raw_rec module under the ML modules (M) menu.  raw_rec should then appear under the ML video menu.

Hi

I have a "SanDisk 16GB Extreme HD" that records at 45MB/s and I have a few problems recording raw at higher resolutions.
Will it make a diference if I use a "SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC 95MB/s" or the camera can write ate such speeds ?

I've heard the 650D has some limitations and would't use the 95MB/s

Thanks
Benchmarks have only shown maybe a 1MB/s advantage using the 95MB/s card over the 45MB/s. This is not very significant. 720p24 is about the max at this point for the 650D if you want continuous recording.  The real limit is not the SD card, but the controller in the camera.

Option i want to record is using canon/standard video. The quality is not as good as my gh2 hacked. Although it only micro 4/3.
Maybe redirect raw video process and quality conversation here....

Ok.  I know that I've screwed up totally.  I upgraded the firmware on my T4i to 1.0.4 before I realized it would put off ML for an undetermined period.  Is there any way to roll back to 1.0.1? Does anyone know where the firmware may be available? Dumb move.
There is no known way to roll back. If it makes you feel any better, you are not alone in asking ;)

Building ML for 650D still fails on pico.c.
Most build ML for use with raw_rec module which requires disabling pico. Modify Makefile.user to define the CONFIG_PICO as N and CONFIG_TCC, CONFIG_MODULES as Y. They are all together in that file in the top-level dir. I would also remove the conditionals around the definitions of all of them. To create Makefile.user, copy Makefile.user.default to Makefile.user

EDIT: Modified per nanomad's recommendation below to prevent confusion.

Many thanks to developers)))
Why not show the sensitivity of sound? ???
This has been asked and answered many times.  You are not alone in wanting this. :) The audio IC is different from previous version of the Rebel line.  This is a requested feature that will take much in-depth work.  Many hours + deep knowledge of the audio IC + knowledge of ML audio.  This is taking a back seat to getting ML stable on the 650D.

i have got a 45mb/s sd and its maximum writing speed is ~33mb/s on my 650d.
Is that running the benchmark in video mode or photo mode?  Try both and see if there is a difference.  I think you can run RAW video in photo mode with live view turned on.

EDIT: From the old 650D thread...

1536 X 656 14-bit RAW videos at 24 frames/s requires 41 Megabyte/s (1536 X 656 X 14 / 8 X 24 = 42,319,872 bits).
That's math. I didn't say the card was the problem. A 95MB/s card still runs at 41 because of the hardware not the card. Let me backtrack a bit and say that no, just reducing CPU load will not improve RAW video. However, to run additional processing on the RAW video you will need CPU cycles for it. Whether you are chopping off the 2-4 LSB (which sound like crazy bit-shifting nightmares) or trying to find the "Huffman encoding" used for RAW (cropped RAW? which has been labeled as a camera crasher), you will still need to fit that time somewhere to shrink the data to fit through your approximately 41MB/s pipe.

Are the audio issues related to the commented out stubs in Stubs.c ?
If you want to look at audio stuff, it is currently disabled as the audio IC is different from previous cameras.  However, 1% has mentioned that it should be similar to the EOS M and the EOS M is working to some degree.  I think the audio levels work when recording but not when idle.  Look to the EOS M and likely 1%'s fork, tragic-lantern, if my memory is correct.

Since it requires only 41 Megabyte/s write speed 1536x656 at 24 frames/seconds should be possible on the 650D. At least for more than a few seconds.
"Should be possible" is a funny thing when it comes to software/hardware performance.  41 MB/s is the average write speed over some amount of time.  There is no accounting for variance.  If the write speed slows down for a few frames, you don't keep up with the buffer and drop a frame.  Also, that statistic, I believe, is gathered using a different method of writing to the SD card than RAW video.  No matter what math you do, it can only do what it does.

There may be some optimizations available somewhere, somehow, but the code looks pretty straight forward.  Copy to buffer, write buffer to disk.  Getting other stuff out of the way (off of CPU) may be the best option for improving performance.

Is the RAW module being developed along with the Alpha build or does the 650D alpha build just use the module already being developed in unified?
650D uses the unified RAW module. There is some 650D support required for the module to work, like defining where the necessary functions are in the Canon firmware.

You've got to keep the Iambic Pentameter (with an occasional feminine ending):

Thou art thyself, though not an Alpha true.
What's Alpha here? not zebras, nor peaking,
Nor raw footage, nor any other part
Belonging to a Stable magic lant'rn.  O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call beta
By any other name would smell as sweet;

So is there really no way  I can install it onto my camera? Iv'e been waiting awhile to get it on the 650d :(
Other cameras have gone through multiple versions of Canon firmware, and ML is supported on a later (not the initial) firmware. There is no download available from Canon to downgrade back to 1.0.1. I don't believe there is a method to pull the firmware off of the 650D or nanomad would have pointed that out. It looks like you will have to wait until ML is supported for 1.0.4 or later.  :(

What tasks (features) are required to be completed to move the dev into Beta?  Is there a place where this is documented?  I'm assuming this is in black box testing?

Check the first post as it refers to what is causing crashes.  Known crashes should likely be fixed first but there is no official criteria.  Unless nanomad has some secret list of tasks ;)  With the Satriani builds, it has taken on more of a rolling alpha feel with no real releases.

I had the program but took it to be hard reset to the card from my pc!

Now when i put the card in my camera the camera doesn't work...

The camera doesn't work only with this card!

When i put out this card ,must be put out and the battery, and then i put other card , put the battery and then the camera power on.
Try holding the SET button down when you start the camera.  If your camera starts this way, do a low level format of the card removing ML from the card. Then reinstall ML on the SD card.

If the camera doesn't start with SET held down, try putting ML on the card again and try the above again.

EDIT: Great glad you got it to work

If i put the card in the camera the camera doesn't work .....

And to power on after that the camera i put out the battery and i put my second card and then works!

Have you had ML work for you before?  Does the second card have ML? Both the camera and the card have to have the boot flag enabled.  The camera via the firmware update .fir and the card via EOSCard.  You want to do the EOSCard step BEFORE moving the ML files to the SD card.  If EOSCard writes any files to the card, you should remove them.  Remove anything that isn't under the DCIM and MISC folder (I think those are the two default folders).  Then write your ML autoexec.bin and ML folder to the SD card.

EDIT: also are you using the Satriani build or compiling your own?

I have a second card and there I had pass the program ...
I did format the card and I had to transfer data!
Well since bought a new means of transfers tried to transfer the program again on the card!
Well after I've done hard format I tried to boot the card with the EOScard.exe but keep getting message that the path can not be found  :o
Unfortunately doesn't work and the camera whenever I put this card!
The card works fine and I can see on the computer and can pass files, but can't pass the ml or to have it as second card...

:-[
I'm not exactly sure what you are asking... seems like translator issue maybe.  I think you are wanting to put ML on a second card.  It also sounds like you have a new card reader maybe.

You need EOSCard to properly set the BOOTFLAG on the card.  If that doesn't work, ML will not run.  Path not found means it is likely trying to access the wrong drive.  Check My Computer for where your SD card is mounted (which drive letter).  Make sure that that drive letter is selected in EOSCard.  You may need to restart EOSCard if it has been running before you put the SD card in the reader.

Otherwise it should be just like the setup in first post on this thread.  Just without the camera setup steps.
