Black Magic Video Assist
« on: November 09, 2015, 11:42:00 PM »
Hi guys,

i was wondering if someone already owns the video assist from black magic. And what the quality is if you record straight to proress 422 on the video assist. Is it kinda soft like when you record internally on your 5D3? Or is it sharper?
Is it even possible to record in MLV/RAW straight to such a davice?

Please let me know!

I got one. Cool stuff BUT: No mlv recording possible (obviously) only HDMI mirroring BUT WITHOUT SOUND!!!!!. Good for monitoring and playback in RAW workflow but a lack of sound can be a problem. Normally You add another 3.5inch Jack audio from camera to recorder but VA doesn't have audio input.. It's canon firmware fault but VA should have had an audio input anyway. Only way is I think HDMI audio inserter but its getting too complicated. As soon as Blackmagic 4.6K hit the stores my 5D3 will be photo camera only. - DIY Filmmaking Blog
