Q-Scale / bitrate question

Can someone give a detailed explanation of Q-scale numbers as far as quality is concerned.  And how bitrate & gop plays into the picture.

Also how Canon defaults deal with both.

Can't seem to find a decent explanation here or on google.

Yeah, I've read pretty much every topic on the subject ... just trying to get a better understanding of how the different settings work.  I've been playing around with both TL versions and even though TL1 has more control, I've found a happy medium in TL2.

Not really looking for settings per say, more like how the different settings interact and affect the others.

Can't wait till 1% gets them ported to TL2!!!



Google searches turned up nothing, other than what is already posted here.
