6D headphones

Trying to monitor audio out on my 6D with ML. I have an AV cable I made up with the USB to 3.5 plug. It works great on my 60D but not on the 6D. As soon I plug it in it shuts down the LCD screen. When I unplug it there is a text saying headphones disconnected. So it looks like ML is recognizing that they are connected, but there is no audio output. The other ML functions are working. Any ideas?

I think the only way right now is to use some external recording device like zoom h1 so you can monitor audio via its headphone jack.

The only use is to make the screen visible while connected to USB right now.
