Canon 550D RAW Questions

So I just want to say I'm still not even remotely familiar with how everything works with ML, but I've been trying out RAW lately and I have two questions. Just an FYI I'm using a Transcend 32 GB 45 MB/s SDHC card, and I do realize that the t2i has a max write speed of about 19/20 MB/s. 

My questions are:

1) After shooting at either 960 x 540 or lower which is pretty much all I can do, the recording appears cropped in, and I've heard a bit about that while reading into this, but I still don't understand how to deal with it?

2) How do I properly import RAW recordings onto my computer? When I go to the content folder on my card, I can see the RAW files, but I'm not able to open them at all.

Sorry if there are any obvious answers to these problems, I'm relatively new to using ML on my camera. I can clarify anything if needed.
