Seems a nit, but I think the focus confirm 'green bars' would be way more visible if the unfocused color was black, rather than light gray/white. Currently there is little contrast between the two states.

Magic zoom is awesome!

If the color was black, you wouldn't see the borders on a very dark image.

If you notice, a lot of things have double border in ML (black+white), including spotmeter and raw cropmarks, so you can see them no matter what's behind.

I don't follow. What's the point of seeing light upper/lower borders when they are not green?

Currently I see white borders top and bottom, and those change to green when in focus. I can see the magic zoom area clearly regardless of the borders, and if the scene is so dark that I can't, then I have other problems.

The idea of the suggestion is to make the top and bottom borders black so that their transition to green is much more vivid.
