Hi still learning how to install MagicLantern
When I insert my SD card into my Mac it says. 'SD Card initialize?
Will that screw up my install on the Canon if I initialize the SD card?
ALSO
The card is class 6 100x Lexar platinum 6 Is that ok for video using ML v2.3
ALSO
Do I need to copy all those files including PDFs
Thanks
Peter
PS Is it better to install on Leopard or MountainLion 10.8.3

Francis

Format the card in the camera first. Then copy the files onto the card. Don't format or initialize or anything on your computer. Copy all the files. They don't take up very much space. It doesn't matter what OS version you are running. Class 6 should be OK but you probably won't have much luck increasing bitrate or anything like that.

Hi Francis. thanks for replying so fast.
I did a low level format as per the YouTube videos suggest on my 60D.
But when I put the card into my my MAC it requires that I initialize the card first on the Mac.
So I cant transfer till I initialize, what do I do?
Im using Mountain Lion
I found this info
http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/macboot/macboot.html

It would be great to be able to connect the camera to the Mac and transfer and install rather than putting the card in the Mac to install.
Thanks

never had this but either you never formatted your card before or you might need to buy external cardreader since I only use an external cardreader as my mac does not have the build in one.

Thanks , I have portable card reader.
So when you put yours into the Mac you don't have to initialize, maybe that's a mountain lion thingy
Ill try leopard

Maybe it is a Mountain Lion quirk. I'm using Snow Leopard. And have only ever seen a message about initializing external volumes with a RAID array. As long as it doesn't format it again you should be fine. Read the official installation guide in addition to whatever video you watched.

I followed official instructions and got this when I installed my exter reader plug into my Mac Tower

The disk inserted was not readable by this computer
Initialize - Ignore - Eject

I tried on Snow Leopard  same problem

Maybe its the external reader

Okay I've got it working. My son thought the reader was old and used his iMac to transfer the 2.3 version to the SD card.
Easy to install.
Thanks  Peter
