Hello All,

I am new to this forum, I have successfully installed ML on my
Canon EOS 50D and it's working very well so far.

However, I noticed that when connecting an external monitor
via VIDEO OUT, the LCD display ist turned off and I have only
the "normal" LIVE VIEW on the external monitor, no ML overlays
at all.

When pressing the ML menu button (the "wastebasket"-button in
case of 50D), the ML menu shows up on the external monitor.

But there is never a ML overlay on the external monitor via AV out
in shooting mode.

Is this a "bug" or have I missed a setting in the setup somwhere?

Thanks for any help,

Nobody ever intended ML on 50D, 500D or other old cameras to work on external monitors. If some things happen to work, that's pure luck.

See if ML overlay menu displays any warning, and also check if ML menu is properly centered on the screen.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I understand that ML was not designed to
operate on external monitors.

When I only use the LCD screen in LiveView, the ML overlay works
flawlessly on my 50D, it is centered and there are no warnings.

I thought when using the VIDEO OUT I would get exactly what I see
on the LCD screen...

If you want to have it fixed, answer to that question ;)

Hello,

the ML menu is properly centered on the external screen, and there is no warning.

All the ML menu pages show up properly, however, no overlay in shooting mode on
external monitor.

On the overlay page, the Global Draw setting is "All Modes ON", and on the display page,
under "screen layout settings"  I have tried all different screen layouts and image positions,
no effect to ML overlays in shooting mode...

Hello,

I need a clarification:

Is it the ML overlay menu page on the external monitor
or the internal LCD screen which I should take a picture from?

Use an image hosting service like imgur or imageshack ;)

Pushed a fix. Try these in tomorrow's nightly:
1) disable display presets (just in case)
2) press the INFO button: when Canon graphics are on the screen, there should be no ML graphics (and red warning in menu). When Canon graphics are disabled, ML graphics should appear. Try it both on LCD and on external monitor.

If it still doesn't work, ilguercio knows where to look.

Hello,

I disabled ML LV display presets.

When pressing the INFO button, Canon info data is displayed, this works for both
the LCD display as well in LiveView mode on the external monitor.

But nevertheless I never get the ML graphics to work in LiveView on the external monitor,
I only see the ML menu pages on the external screen...

Hello,

I disabled ML LV display presets.

those need to be enabled to be visible, canon's need to be hidden after pressing INFO
I'm using ML2.3 for photography with:

Hello,

when I enable the ML LV display preset, the ML LV overlay graphics work
flawlessly on the internal LCD screen in LV shooting mode. When pressing the
INFO button, NO CANON INFO overlay appears on the internal LCD screen when
ML overlay graphics are active.

When I connect the external monitor via AV OUT, the internal LCD screen is shut off
and the LiveView appears on the external monitor, but there are no  ML LV graphics
overlays anymore.

Instead I have the normal Canon LiveView with Canon INFO overlay blinking...

I do not find any ways to stop display of Canon Info overlay in LiveView on external
monitor, even when pressing the INFO button, nothing changes.

When I disconnect the external monitor from the AV OUT socket I have again the LiveView
on the internal LCD screen WITH CORRECT ML LV overlays...

Check in Display->Advanced settings if having Force HDMI-VGA set to ON will solve that.

Hello,

I am not using HDMI but AV out for the external monitor,
nevertheless I checked this  --- Force HDMI to VGA has no effect.

ML graphics overlay do not appear on the external monitor...
