Menu not staying up

I've got a 5D M III, and when I press the erase button, I see the menu for a millisecond and then the help menu comes up. I must be doing something wrong.

What happens if you press set or an arrow key in the help menu?

Ooh. That mighta done it. I was confused because I expected to see the menu bar I was seeing in that brief flash.
