would there be a chance that Magic Lantern could make a "quick access custom function assigned button for spot metering" on the EOS 5D3 - some of the older EOS cameras had this option that you when you pressed the button normally addressed AE lock, you instead jumped directly from evaluating to spot metering.

This would be great!
Most photographers can switch without thinking, but thats because they're used to the hardware.  If a decent on-the-fly software solution was taken (one button hold), modern GUI for metering modes, it could make getting some shots much easier.
