Hi

I am new to Magic lantern and promise that I have scoured the forums and help documents before coming here to ask, so if it is really easy and I have just missed it, my apologies, I tried.

My sole purpose for installing ML is to be able to turn off Exposure Simulation in a Canon 600D as this is used in a photobooth and presently displays very dark on the tablet screen when in Live View as it is showing the stopped down view that the camera will make the exposure at, but of course we are shooting with studio flash.

From what I have read, this can be done with ML - I believe that I have the last most  current version installed acquired here

I would greatly appreciate if anyone can either tell me definitively that I am wrong in thinking this can be done, or tell me where I have gone wrong.

Thanks,

Craig

Nightly is in fact outdated. I recommend to use lua_fix instead. See https://builds.magiclantern.fm/experiments.html
If you only want it for this feature it doesn't make a difference, though.
Lua_fix contains 30-minute timer override for liveview which comes handy for cams running unattended.

Exposure Simulation is found in Expo tab/screen -> ExpSim ON/OFF
See https://wiki.magiclantern.fm/camera_help#expsim for short explanation and other stuff.

This setting is among the very few stored in cam. Means: Set it OFF and it stays off, even without ML running/installed.

Thanks very much for your reply, I am away from the camera atm, but will check this out in the morning.

Hi Again,

I have just had a look at the Expo menu and there is nothing about ExpSim located there.  Sorry if I am being particularly dense.  Your help is appreciated

Also, if I understand you correctly - I can make this change and then uninstall ML and it will stay changed, given that this particular alteration is actually done on the camera rather than requiring the ML present on the card?  That would be great.

Cheers

Craig

Dang!
You are right and 600D is missing this feature!
See https://builds.magiclantern.fm/features.html -> Expo -> ExpSim
There are only two cams *not* supported.

Sorry!

Hi Walter,

Thanks for your help - that is very disappointing and odd that the 550D has it, and cameras that already support this natively by Canon itself, also have it - but not mine :-(

I guess I can follow the steps to put in a request, but doubtful that this would be actioned given the age of the camera and that no work appears to have been done on this since 2018, but I can only hope.

Cheers

Craig

Skinny

Maybe I am wrong but I remember some flashes or wireless flash triggers could deactivate expo simulation automatically, as long as they are attached to the camera. You need to google this if you want to know more, maybe I am just imagining stuff here... But I know this is an issue with 600D and seems like someone mentioned something about specific flashes..
It was many years ago, so I could be wrong
