Hello dear ML users,

We have guides to install.
We have guides to uninstall.

however, we do not have an Update procedure.
at least not that I am awarr of...

I am a long time ML user
I am using 5D¡¡¡, with dual cards config.

I have 6 SD cards carring my ML install.
whenever I need to update for a new build, I am getting an headack.
uninstalling, formating, copying new build, installing, copying emergancy  backup.. etc

doing this 6 times, for each SD card.

What whould be the correct approch for this situation?

thanks

Hi,

You may only delete old files autoexec.bin ML-SETUP.FIR and folder ML on a card, and write these files and the folder from a new build.

Thats all! I am changing the version this way.

If you need to use the same settings on all 6 cards, you can properly configure one card in the camera after installation, then copy the contents of folder ML/SETTINGS from it to five other cards.

wait what?
what about install step?
thata all you are doing ?

ML does need 3 things to  run:
1. Cam with bootflag set ... one time action done during first install
2. bootable card ... one time action for each and every card. Must be repeated if formatted in PC.
3. autoexec.bin (= this is actually running ML) + associated files in ML dir

So ... why bother with installation if you know what you are doing?

Caveat: Restoring SETTINGS dir has to be handled with care. There may be unwanted side effects.

PS: I'm not in favour of advertising this procedure in FAQ or Install Guide. We had tons of issues with people just deleting ML files and got stuck cams. So for tutorials we stay with slow and time consuming but most stable solution.

I got confused,
can you please suggest your step by step goto when dealing with update please?

lets say I have 3 cards
they are all running ML, with my configuration.

now a new build was announced
I am downloading and unzipping files.

now what?

1) Take a card and delete autoexec.bin, ML dir and ML-SETUP.FIR.
2) Copy extracted build contents to card.
3) Startup cam and configure ML settings as needed.
4) Backup ROM dumps.

5) Delete autoexec.bin, ML dir and ML-SETUP.FIR on second card.
6) Copy autoexec.bin, ML dir and ML-SETUP.FIR from card one to card two.

Redo 5) and 6) for card 3 to n
