Hi,

I am completely new to ML.
I have this issue with leaving the ML files on the cf card.
I just do not understand this issue.
Does it mean I have to leave the ML files at all time on the card.
So I can not use any other flashcard with no ML on it.
How do I format the card so ML still remain on the card.

I found so much information about this but I just do not get the point.
Perhaps my Englisch?

Can someone explain me in easy words how and what to do.

Thank's in advance
cheers
Richard

ML does not replace Canon's firmware. ML is much more like a program located on your PC's storage device and loaded at startup.

ML needs three things to run:
- Cam with bootflag set (setting stored in the cam)
- Bootable card
- ML files and directories on card

Cam with bootflag set will look for a bootable card. If a bootable card is found cam will look for Autoexec.bin and trying to load it.

Cam status ------   Card bootable --- ML files located on file --- Status after Power On
Bootflag not set    No                        No                                     Cam will start. ML is not active
Bootflag not set    No                        Yes                                    Cam will start. ML is not active
Bootflag not set    Yes                       No                                    Cam will start. ML is not active
Bootflag not set    Yes                       Yes                                   Cam will start. ML is not active

Bootflag set           No                        No                                    Cam will start. ML is not active
Bootflag set           No                        Yes                                   Cam will start. ML is not active
Bootflag set           Yes                       No                                    Cam will *not* start. Cam is locked/temporarily bricked
Bootflag set           Yes                       Yes                                   Cam will start. ML is active

Cards formated in cardreaders will not be bootable. To enable the boot option you have to use ML installation (in cam) or some utilities (EOScard/MacBoot/MakeBootable.sh).
Cards formated in cam when ML is active will remain bootable by default.
Cards formated in cam when ML is not active will not be bootable.

Some cards are incompatible with ML. Older Eye-Fi cards for example.
