Possible to change flash sync?

Hello,

I'd like to experiment with changing the flash sync to shutter trip by a few milliseconds or so plus or minus.  One of my motivations is that I have a wireless flash trigger that doesn't seem to always sync with the shutter, and I would like to be able to compensate manually.

Is that something already available? If not, I would be happy to try my hand at writing a module for this if someone could point me in the right direction to get started.
