Couple of newbie questions
« on: February 24, 2016, 03:15:17 PM »
Hi there,

I purchased my 5d mkiii a week or so ago now and can not stop looking at Raw Video, I need this goodness in my life. Coming across a few threads on the internet and reading up on here I have now downloaded the 1.2.3 firmware as it came loaded with 1.3.3 that is all ready to go I have also downloaded the EOS utility so that I can downgrade as from what I can see you can not do this just by the card in the camera. (hope that is correct so far)

I noticed on the forum it says the following

Firmware 1.2.3 is required if need one of those features from Canon:
clean HDMI out
dual monitor support
AF at f/8 with teleconverters
If you don't need anything from the above list, please consider downgrading to 1.1.3.

is this because 1.1.3 is better or more stable than 1.2.3. What is the reason for this.

Once I have downgraded to either 1.1.3 or 1.2.3 depending on what people say reading about the ML upgrade is there a file which includes all the raw video modules or do you have to install these after ML is on the camera. << I hope this doesnt make me sound like too stupid. I just want to make sure I get everything done correctly the first time.

Cant wait to get on ML and start shooting Raw video

Thank you all in advance

Go clean:
Take a second card (not bootable = not prepared for ML) and change Canon firmware.
Format ML card in cardreader, then in cam and proceed ML installation for 1.1.3 or 1.2.3

Go dirty:
Change Canon firmware.
Delete ML directory, *.FIR and autoexec.bin from card and copy ML for 1.1.3 or 1.2.3 (according to Canon firmware used).

Downgraded to 1.1.3 and installed from the link you supplied. All working well.

Thank you for the help.

Think I need a few faster cf cards now as I'm getting errors very quickly after pressing rec.

Try KomputerBay 128gb 1066x CF cards as they work well with 5D3.
5D3.113 | 5D3.123 | EOSM.203 | 7D.203 | 70D.112 | 100D.101 | EOSM2.* | 50D.109
