I shoot weddings with long lenses and need to get razer focus down the aisle at varios moments. I heard about this trap focus and wanted to investigate. Can I use pentax k lenses with the canon 50d? I assume i must have an adapter that has a chip? My plan was to set the focus 6 feet infront of the bride then let ML detect the focus and rapid fire a few shots?(is that possible or is it just 1 shot?)
Then i want to repeat the process, focus another 6 feet infront and wait for trap focus to fire the photos. Basically i want to have several of these during the 70 feet or so walk of the bride, groom etc.. Will this work? Is it just one shot or can it be multiples?

Just tried M42-adapter with AF-confirm (older version, not working on 650D) on 7D.
- Only working in Liveview. Bit slow and I suppose quite too slow for your needs.
- In liveview you don't need a chipped adapter.
- There is a continuous mode.

so are you saying in liveview trapfocus will work , fire the shutter and in continuous rapid mode?

Walter Schulz

"Rapid" as in sloth. Nope, no rapid in store ...
EDIT:
As I said: No adapter required. You may even try it at home.

On 50D, trap focus won't work in LiveView (it needs CONFIG_LV_FOCUS_INFO, see https://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/features ).

Outside LV... guess it's best to try and judge for yourself, but you need a chipped lens. Just use a Canon lens in MF for testing.

Thanks, a1ex.
Just tested my chipped M42 adapter (unused for long) and - if my memory serves me well - it doesn't work the way it used to do. Can someone with chipped adapter redo non-LV test?
