Canon T5i general questions

I am new to this forum. I have a project where I am recording Stills and videos on parallel T5i cameras. There are 2 questions I have and am looking for any ideas. First in order to programmaticly record still images or movies I have to flip the switch from on to movie mode. I have gone to the extent of mounting a mechanical switch to accomplish this function. Is there anyway to change this mode in software? Or is there another Canon camera that allows this.

Second question. I find no way to copy files programmaticly from the camera. This is noot a Canon issue perse, the same issue exists with say an iPhone. I tried setting the Windows Import wizard to do it, however this process interferes with my software. I have been directed to using dot net, which I haven't gotten to.

Any insight would be appreciated.
