I have an older 7D with a single CF card slot.
I am confused about an essential ML workflow issue... how to work with multiple CF cards.

Since ML 'runs' from the CF card, if I make any changes to the ML settings, how do the settings transfer to the 'next' card when I swap cards?

For example, I have to shoot a performance in 3 acts, and I want to use a different CF card for each act. I understand that every CF card has to have its own copy of ML on it in advance. But what about the ML settings?  Do I need to setup everything again whenever I use 'the next' card?

My guess is that I have to prepare the settings in advance, and save them to the first card, and then using a computer, copy a settings file to all the other cards. If any changes are done after that, they need to be done over within the camera whenever a new card is used.

Correct?

You can copy ML\Settings directory to your second, third (and so on) card. And you are right: There is no sync logic if you change anything on any card.
But you can have several presets stored for ML. See http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=8499.0

yes you just copy the settings! I have found that most of them I always keep the same, and the rest is concerning exposure, so that is no problem.

but, why you want to use 3 cards, not enough space?

to separate files I usually reset the file number thus creating a next folder, especially useful for time lapses
