Hey,
why isnt it possible to get 60fps on a 50d? Is it only due to liveview cant render such high framerates? Isnt it possible to get 60fps and show each third frame on the LV or even turn the liveview off? 60fps would be so cool.

Probably not possible in the way the sensor is designed by Canon (so hardware limited, not software blocked).
The 5dII also isn't capable of 50/60fps/

The 50/60 fps modes are possible, because the sensor can be read out by skipping 4 pixel lines each time a line is read out.
So you're skipping lines of image data and save time, this way 50/60fps is achieved.

The 50d and 5dII are older sensors, which probably aren't capable to be read out and skip 4 pixel lines each time...
