Hi I've a 7d and a 6d both running on very recent firmware not suitable for Magic Lantern  (2.0.5 on the 7D & 1.1.6 on the 6D). Neither camera will load the appropriate firmware (7D_203.FIR & ML-6D113.FIR) that downloads with the Magic Lantern firmware. Has anyone any suggestions?

Those are not Canon FIRs. Those are 'hacked' FIRs that allow you to run ML (they don't actually update any 'firmware', they simply enable the 'bootflag' so you can run ML off of your card => ML is not firmware, it is just a program that runs on top of the normal Canon firmware). You need to download the appropriate official Canon firmware versions from Canon. Then follow the instructions.

Thanks for that clarification dmilligan. Unfortunately Canon only seem to list the most recent versions of their firmware on their site - at least I can't find any earlier firmware  releases. Would appreciate if anyone out there could point me in the direction of an archive with older canon firmware.

You will find those information and links in the camera specific threads and in
