Hey there, I posted this in the reddit magic lantern sub and someone suggested I post here.

I recently installed magic lantern on my 5d mark iii and absolutely love it. I've had no problems with running the software but haven't been able to quite figure out the post processing.

Through the camera viewfinder the images look great. High dynamic range, highlights and blacks in range - very much a film quality look.

To process I downloaded CR2HDR. Initially my issue was that I did not have the newest versions of Exiftool and dcraw. I downloaded both and now CR2HDR at least works.

Now when I convert it comes out with a pink overlay. This corrects in lr/ps but I can't seem to reproduce the image quality I see in the viewfinder. I've done my best to find an answer on the web but haven't had any luck.

I've included a walk through of my work flow below and I'd really appreciate it if anyone could take a look and possibly walk me through what's happening/what I'm doing wrong.

Hi!
You could try a few different apps to convert. Are you on mac or windows?

I created a tool for conversion with cr2hdr20bit and there is also Kitchehofs fine lightroom app

cr2hdr-r (for mac)

Hey! These look great. I'm on mac.

I'l give them a try tonight. Do you think the pink hue I'm currently getting an error with my current CR2HDR?

Danne

Could be. It,s probably something with black level. Should work with cr2hdr-r. It,s a late cr2hdr20bit version in there made by a1ex and compiled by Kitchehof for mac. You could try the automator service or the app. They should work the same. Get back when you tried some :)

Installed the app but it's not letting me select any files once open? Any thoughts? http://i.imgur.com/HSh44JW.png

Which OS X are you running?

it may be easier for you to set it as a 'workflow' service?

try to select the folder which contains the files, not the file itself.

Downloaded the CR2 from reddit. Your image is underexposed by about 4 stops, that's why it's noisy.

DeafEyeJedi

I noticed that as well. @a1ex is correct on being slightly underexposed. Try keeping it between 2-3 stops should help if you really want to push the DR!

Hey all

I think I figured it out!
Used the CR2HDR-r application that you all recommended.
Here's the original finder preview: http://imgur.com/F4GO2h8[1]   Here's the converted DNG: http://imgur.com/1wMgDGW[2]   Then (different picture) but here's a version of a photo I had after I went through the full LR import and post: http://imgur.com/PI9VrON[3]
Still getting a hang of the workflow, but looks like the full dynamic range is there yeah?

Danne

Cool. It, s really all about finding the right situations to get best use of dual iso. You can check some scenes made in movie mode but the principles are the same.
Don, t forget to check out mlvfs and mlrawviewer too.

@cpl35 -- try going outside where there will be Sunlight and then make sure there are heavy shadows as well within the frame of your shot to be able to get get the most DR from Dual-ISO.
