Your footage will be shot in raw right  :D
Because you're talking about flat pictures styles and stuff, but picture styles don't influence raw footage  ???

And to get the grading style you're after,  you have to be more specific about what you think is Hollywood grading.
Maybe post some names of Hollywood movies which you like for their color grading  8)

Maybe you can you upload some (short) footage of your 5d mark II with the anamorphic setup for us to play with already, before the actual footage comes in Januari.
I'd like to test some things  ;D

jameslarkin

but picture styles don't influence raw footage

im quite new to using picture styles so don't know everything about them, thanks for that info

as far as hollywood style colour, im not 100% sure what im after, orange and teal looks great most of the time here are some examples of what i like

yeh i may well upload some footage soon, but also interested to make this a community effort so others are welcome to upload footage too

I like the 50's style color grading in your example, but it probably works best for pastel colors, so the cars en clothing and stuff must be the right style/color.
Don't know how it looks on modern London footage with people in Jeans, but we can try that out  8)

What's your plan to use it for, obviously you want to learn how to color grade.
But what are you planning to create ?
Short movies, music video clips, wedding movies or a budget blockbuster movie  ;)

jameslarkin

well im starting psychotherapy company and i want to create some up to date and modern informational videos, im not 100% sure about the type of colour i want to achieve but ill know that i like the look of some of hollywoods colour, especially in the trailer

For information videos I'd suggest to use the correct white balance, natural/true colors (not orange/teal or other effects).
Also, make the videos bright, no dark shadows, but nice bright video.

Although you could go wild on color grading when explaining problems with mood and stuff (blue color for cold, no happiness and green color for fear etc...)

jameslarkin

the thing is, part of my branding is that i want my video to be set myself apart from the competition who seem to play it safe, and go for neutral colour, i want to create more feeling my in my videos
