Download MLV files from a CD card without a card reader

Is it possible to dowload files from a CF and SD card from my 5D Mark III without a card reader ? Just with the USB cable provided ?

Direct transfer is not recommended... and card readers are only a few dollars.

I'm on a trip and dont have card reader available... So i really need a way to empty my CF card without a card reader :)

Its not recommended because you may or may not get corrupt frames. That's why it's not recommended. So there is no yes or no response.


Look around the forum and you'll see more people have issues doing it than not.

So, Roll the dice... or don't. I wouldn't card readers can be purchased just about anywhere.

I'm trying now to move the files from the CF to the SD and then put the SD on my MacBook Pro but it's not working... Is there a help file somewhere ?

Yes of course, but when I plug my 5D Mark III in my laptop i would like to see the CF card to download my MLV files on my MacBook pro...

Are you saying you want to first copy the files on the CF card to the SD card and then use USB cable to transfer files on SD to computer?

Not a bad solution for now as it will help protect the original CF card files, but I'm not sure how to copy the files over.

No, won't work. He is right: MLV will not be transfered by Canon's driver.
What *may* work is to transfer the files to SD and then insert SDcard into MacBook.

Don't know if ML file manager is able to copy files > 2/4 GByte from CF to SD.
