When you activate the "reciprocal mode", pressing AE lock button or any other selected button, in Manual mode, stepping down shutter speed will step up aperture automatically, and vice-versa, maintaining the exposure value (in a reciprocal way).

In Manual Exposure (with a Rebel camera), if you want to change aperture and shutter speed while maintaining the exposure value, you have to do it in two steps: rotate the main dial to alter shutter speed, and then, while pressing the [+/-] button, rotate again the main dial to change aperture.

With "reciprocal change" activated, changing shutter speed will change aperture together, like in the Program Mode, except that it was you that selected the initial values of aperture and velocity.

CON: if you use AE lock button this way, you cannot use it as a back autofocus button.
