Hi, greetings from Morocco.  8)

First of all, thanks to the ML team, doing GREAT GREAT work for the community.

I'm a film student, and I'm about to buy my first DSLR ever. Now i've read a lot on the internet about many cameras, and spent most of my time looking at video samples, but I still hesitate about which one to buy/start with.

I'm willing to do MUCH MORE video than photography, and assuming i'll be installing ML and trying to shoot RAW video, I think 50D is the right choice. What are the main disadvantages of the 50D ?

Also, I was wondering if the Canon 7D wasn't a better choice give it's higher price, until I saw this comparative >> http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6215.0.  Is the 50D really better at raw video ?

Thanks.

(hope I'm posting in the right forum  ??? )

and

here's a link to the nightlies, because I know you'll say "I can't find raw recording" when you download the stable instead :P

50D is definitely not better than the 7D. Thank you for the updated comparative, the one I looked at was probably old.
And I'm bookmarking the nightly builds for later, thanks.

@Lybreee

What's your budget for a camera?

I could go as high as 100euros, which is tight for a high-end cameras I know. (Prices in Morocco are higher than average)
I'm looking at second-hand models, and I found a 50d (including a 70-300mm lens, 2 batteries and a grip) for 380e. 7D are about twice the price, with no lenses. Which one should I go for ??
(Savings on the camera price will let me buy a high-speed write CF card and tripod... ???)

IF you dont have $ to spent on cam then you probably dont have fast computer, you need good computer to edit raw files, i suggest to download raw files first and try to edit it so you will see is it really worth it.

For something to learn stills and ML raw video on, the 50D should be fine. Shooting raw has a more involved post processing aspect to it than h.264, which there is a lot to learn and it would be applicable to any camera shooting ML RAW.

The 50D is certainly not the 7D, see comparison here: http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon_EOS_50D-vs-Canon_EOS_7D

Keep in mind, if want to shoot h.264 video also, then you can't get the 50D because it doesn't have native video mode.

I usually edit 1080p H264 projects on an i5 8gig computer (quite weak I know, but I already edited long projects on it) . Is there any way to get RAW files to edit ? I red that the workflow is a bit of a hassle so I should try it before, thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you for the tips. Then I guess there is no audio, and should probably think of getting an audio recorder ?

Thanks guys for the reply, appreciate it !  8)
