One of my favorite DPs is Roger Deakins, and he primarily shoots on film or more recently on the ALEXA. He is amazing at using practicals and bounces to light scenes. He says he shoots on the ALEXA at 800 or 1250. I have tried this on my 60D at 800ISO and it looked like crap.

So, I did a quick test in the style of Deakins to see how it turned out. I did this in 10 minutes so it's not perfect! But, any of you looking to try the practical lighting setups will hopefully be able to see how it looks! I used 3 bulbs totaling less than 150 watts (the two lamps were even dimmed to 50%). There's pretty much no noise at 800 and even 1250 when properly exposed! I could only go to around 640 on my 60D and that was pushing it.

Sorry it's so short!

Looks great! I love how this looks, indeed very Deakins like.
