Latest dcraw compiled for Windows:

Z:\dcraw>dcraw *.DNG
*.DNG: Invalid argument

http://www.centrostudiprogressofotografico.it/en/dcraw/ found a way to enable wildcards for dcraw.exe for Windows.

Nice find Walter. So if dcraw is compiled with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 wildcards are supported? No code change?

@BestLittleStudio - looking into the 70D issue. PM me if I space out or if you want to get involved in posting and/or tracking your issue on bitbucket. It is a cr2hdr issue not a LR plugin issue but as you can see several issues are involved here.

I wrote to the person found on dcraw's home page and he didn't go into details but wrote about a compiler issue. Anyone around running Visual Studio 2008?

BestLittleStudio

@dfort, I will keep up with this thread, anything I can do to help I will but I have very little experience in this field.

I do QA and other work but this is a new one for me so I am learning from the beginning.

@BestLittleStudio I PM'd you and haven't filed a bug report yet but it looks similar to something that was discussed before:

http://magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=11056.msg151675#msg151675

Note--this only affects Canon 70D dual iso.

What I discovered isn't quite what was discussed before and it has to do with Adobe products so maybe we should continue to deal with it in this topic because we're relying on Lightroom to open the files.

So here's what I discovered, which is something different than what BestLittleStudio reported.

If you convert to DNG on import and run cr2hdr on the DNG files the converted *-dualiso.DNG files will not be rendered properly in Lightroom.

If you import without converting to DNG and run cr2hdr on the CR2 the converted *-dualiso.DNG is rendered fine in Lightroom.

I ran this on a few different 70D files and also using Adobe DNG Converter and every time if the original CR2 file is converted to DNG then processed through cr2hdr it will not open up in an Adobe app. I suppose they are all using Adobe Camera Raw and I just updated to the latest ACR 9.3.1.

Now for the strange part--it opens up fine in RawTherapee and dcraw. Haven't tried it on other camera raw apps.

Anyone else confirm this? Maybe someone on Windows?

kichetof

@dfort Bug with DNG. try to download latest branch update, normally fix for single and same-levels (not for same-levels on entire path) for -dualiso.dng bug

Thanks to @all for many feedback! Maybe the only way we have for Windows update is to compile cr2hdr from visual studio! I could have the version... But I don't know how to compile from it... And don't have a lot of time to learn about it.

BestLittleStudio

@dfort, I got your message and just responded.

As ACR open 70D files fine when changing the unique camera model name tag to eos 6D there could be a conflict with the color matrix information and the 70D model name. This because color matrices are the same for both cameras. My theory is that acr won,t open the dng as it thinks the unique camera model name should be 6D instead of 70D.

...My theory is that acr won,t open the dng as it thinks the unique camera model name should be 6D instead of 70D.

That's the weird part. ACR opens the DNG that was converted from the CR2 file but not the DNG that was processed by cr2hdr. In addition, on Windows cr2hdr isn't recognizing the original CR2 file as dual iso--which it is. At least that's what we're finding out. More testing is needed. Any experienced Windows Lightroom cr2hdr plugin users with a Canon 70D camera out there that can chime in?

By the way everything works fine on the Mac as long as you run cr2hdr on the CR2. Convert the CR2 to DNG on import and Lightroom doesn't recognize the DNG created by cr2hdr.

Apparently Adobe recently fixed ACR so it reads the 70D DNG files properly. Maybe that fix broke it in cr2hdr?

My problem when testing CR2 files and cr2hdr was when trying to transcode with adobe dng conveter. If I left that step out everything was fine so it seems something else ws going on. HAve acr been updated recently? Seems the bug has been fixed according to the thread you linked to.

dfort

According to the Adobe website, Adobe Camera Raw was updated to version 9.3.1 on December 8, 2015. The response from the Camera Raw Engineer on that link I posted was 28 days ago. There's no mention of a fix for the 70D. Maybe it didn't get into this update?

[EDIT] By the way, the sample files that the Adobe engineers were looking at came from an mlv file saved as dng with MLRawViewer so there's still hope that a fix from Adobe is on the way.

dfort

Back to testing the latest plugin: commit 12a8838

Again, these are from dual_iso dngs that originated from an mlv extracted to dng with mlv_dump. Shot on an EOSM 1280x720 crop mode video.

same-levels

This time it completes processing only the first dng then quits.

Thanks @dfort for feedback! Unfortunately, I don't have much time to do anything before xmas! I hope before 2016! :)

I'm trying to install the plugin via lightroom plugin manager but the program fails to find the plugin with the extension .lrplugin

When I check the downloaded folder I don't find any file with .lrplugin

I'm on Mac & have install the plugin & ran the install for dcraw and exiftool. I get this error "This plugin works (cr2hdr) need dcraw and exiftool." It also doesn't work just using the app either. I have checked inside the cr2hrd & it has both of those files inside the "bin" folder. Any help would be awesome.

@joshooa

Looks like you're using an old version. Did you use the newest one that kichetof posted on his bitbucket download area?

Go top. To the right (just below Home Page | Downloads | User Guide) is a button labeled "Search". Enter Capitan in field to the left and press button.
Or look up the post above yours ...
