I have to give much appreciation to the developers who have done a fantastic job coding these things for considerably some time. It can be a lot of work for sure! And a lot of things with ML can be unpredictable.

We can't expect things to work straight off the bat, which is why these builds are experimental. Feedback from users with uploaded samples is highly recommended to fix some of the issues.

As for HDMI stuff with Monitors, it can be like playing with fire. The 2.5K HDMI Preset is the best for high resolutions as I have yet to see a dropped frame after a few 1-minute or so recordings. 5K FRTP is also quite good. 1080 mode has it's ups and downs.

Using your smartphone as a monitor with the EOS M is good for 2.5K/2.8K RAW, zero dropped frames and clear image. Other modes go blank. The best would be to test with different capture cards.

But as Danne said, HDMI Monitors will present more issues, I have just tried to exemplify what I have done as I like to use monitors to record myself when sampling lenses for skin tones on different RAW Modes.  8)

Zeek doesn't compile his own builds, does he? Link, please!
Nope. I just share the settings from the 5D2 build I'm using so users can have the same settings that I'm using with my 5D2 if they choose.

Maybe Zeek would get more time in 3K with 24fps and his 512 GB card that was fastest so far...
Well after testing a whole heap, my 2 cents is that the 240Hz patch is not reliable enough. In 2.8k 24p 240Hz I got a max of 8 minutes & now testing 3K 24p override, I got a max of 14 seconds with 240Hz patch. However after a few recordings it will go down to about 3/4 seconds with the same patch.
A break is needed and then it will pick up the pace again, but then the same pattern will occur. So then again....
I still think though 512GB is an amazing SD if you travel a lot and plan on shooting heaps of 2.5/2.8K Raw footage. 😎👍

2.5k mode is still broken in HDMI.
Try enabling the 2.5K & 2K Modes from the preset menu by tapping on the screen once and see if that works.

Check your resolution or aspect ratio. What are they 16:9 / 3:2? Also in Advance HDMI settings in ML Menu I think from memory bottom Tab 6, change from 3:2 to 16:9/16:10.

iBut im getting errors on all moviemodules. Im on 5d markii 2.1.2.
Errors will happen if the wrong Module has been enabled. E.g. MLV_Rec

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't know if the audio bar being towards the bottom has caused the issue, maybe, or the new LV Layout has tinkered with something

GUI OFF/ON doesn't make a difference or even Global Draw. I'll give it a fresh install and test it out again though. Cheers 👍

I have a sample video here in the link I recorded earlier today using the Latest OCT 27 EOS M ML Build.

Unfortunately it freezes whenever plugged into an external monitor.
Video Sample:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Uvs29vD4aWtDEqHh5eSdydW_PBy0m2au/view?usp=drivesdk

- This happens in all modes 1080, 2.5k, 2.8k 5K FRTP, 8-bit H.264 preset etc, and custom modes ON and OFF. Every time the monitor turns on it shows the Eos m live view and then freezes. You can enter the ML Menu or the normal Canon menu, it's only when in Live View that it freezes.

The build that works fine is the OCT 07 that I have as backup, it doesn't freeze in any of the modes. I just really like the GUI OFF option in the latest build.

*Not sure what the issue could be or how to find it. Tested various monitors and HDMI Cables.

Congrats! Just tested it, works like a charm. Much more pro-looking now 😎🔥🔥 Cheers 👌

Hardware and Accessories / Re: SD card for EOS M

2.5K is quite demanding on the camera, dropped frames will appear. Try the 2.5K HDMI Preset, should work better, although not perfect with monitors.

#36
It happens in all presets, no presets work better than the other. Avoiding the issue would be to not use an external monitor in general, otherwise just live with rebooting the camera after exiting the ML Menu to fix the freeze. The issue will reproduce with any preset used and after exiting the ML Menu. Haven't encountered this in the last build with HDMI or the few previous builds. It's not a Huge deal as I don't use a monitor as often, just thought I'd raise this concern thinking what the issue could be.
#37
There is a known issue on the EOS M, especially with the Latest Build [OCT,07]. When using HDMI with a monitor, the EOS M LiveView/Monitor Screen tends to "Lockup" or freeze after exiting the Canon or Magic Lantern Menu. A Reboot is required each time. Not sure what is causing this freeze in LV.

Enable 24fps when ratio 2.39:1 and 2.35:1 and set 25fps are set(yes, aware of contradiction set 25fps becomes 24fps). Will only work with framing preview. Realtime liveview will be frozen or else pink frames.
Thanks Danne, this is actually an amazing option for stills, cheers 😎👌🎥🔥

In 5K Anamorphic FLV, Ratio set to 2.35:1 you get 1736x2214 @20fps. This is a very nice resolution.

With the 240Hz Patch or even 192Hz, it's continuous RAW 2.35:1, 1736x2214, 20FPS. I wonder if the preset could possibly be stretched a little from 20fps to 23.976/24p, continuous raw I guess could be taxed.

Wow, great to hear that recording with 240MHz is possible. Shame it requires such an expensive card. Does this card work at 240MHz on multiple cameras?
Yes indeed! I'm no rich guy, but after being an EOS M user for a few yeas now, I knew it was finally worth the jump ;) Yes, it works on all my EOS M Cams.

These cards do have a lifetime warranty, don't be shy about frying your card for science :D
Haha, better not lose the receipt ;)

Is this problem with just me or others also have this issue? Can it be solved? Thanks
I use Zebras all the time in every mode and false colour. Recently tested this build, Zebras work fine. What you have showing isn't Zebras, it looks like a form of bad focus peaking. Best would be to screenshot your ML Tab 2 Screen.

If you're a deciated ML user who travels a lot and shoots high resolution Video, it will definitely come in handy. I was hesitant at first, but now no regrets with this purchase.

Unfortunately 3K Raw on the M is max 18/20fps. 2.8K is the best Resolution so far.

With the 192Mhz patch I get about 5-12 Seconds, with the 240MHz patch, 1 Minute & above. Not sure about the consequences of using the highest patch and how taxing it can be on the card in long term use. Don't think it should be too bad.

Testing the 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO again @240Hz Patch, best card I've used to date. Tested in 1080 Mode 16:9, 10 Bit on the EOS M.

*Note, I could also record 2.8K RAW on the EOS M @2.35:1 with green signal for over a minute.

I have a single 256GB card, and it's speed is adequate, but I was concerned about potentially going over file size limits recording a set of roughly 45 mins.
I use a 512GB SD Card and have recorded 100 Minutes (1hr 40min) with Magic Lantern Raw 1080 Mode, and could have recorded way more. So if you're not shooting RAW, you're definitely fine.

1. Is there a way to get a useable 16mm equivalent field of view (FF) with the canon 10 - 18 @ 10mm with EOS M with Magic Lantern Raw? With the 1736x976 16:9 mode maybe?
- it's possible to shoot 24/25fps
- 1080 mode with 1.6x Crop + speedbooster & 10-18mm @13mm will give you 15mm FF Equivalent
- I've gotten usable footage with noise reduction @800 iso, but honestly with the M, it's no A7S, I'd just keep it at 100 ISO and let it do it's thing.
- Using the higher crop modes will perform worse in lowlight. Using a fast lens and speedbooster will help, as well as NR Software.

Maybe a link to a sample video could help. If you are in stills mode/photo icon on the M2, LV will freeze because you need to take off RAW Video, restart camera, then disable Crop Mode in ML Tab 3. For Video Mode, it should work fine, try enabling release without shutter in the custom functions menu, although it's probably not related, it could help with other lenses if already not enabled. Otherwise, it chould be the shutter-bug issue which I have never encountered before.

I've had the 15-45mm, quality is quite poor. I've seen good things from the 11-22mm though.. quality looks nice.

Zeek,
Thanks a lot for quick reply. I watched it again, but could not find any steps you are doing for "refresh register".
When the LV freezes, I'm pressing the Menu button a few times (until back to LV), this unfreezes the LV, then it works fine again (Liveview is not frozen).

Everything is explained in this video:
https://youtu.be/T0UYMluXR0Q

Tapping the menu button a few times is necessary when the Liveview is in frozen state to unfreeze, or even before shooting a clip to avoid footage error.

I've been testing 48fps with the new builds and ratio on @2.35 or 16:9 set to 10 bit, they've been fine. Even any other mode. I did experience dropped frames a few builds back, but so far so good.
I'm thinking if the 5K Anamorphic should be called 5K 1x3 instead or something similar. Newbies might think you need Anamorphic glass for that mode. But really pleased to see the LV Fix, looks excellent 👌
