Thanks , here the start of 3x1 anamorphic on 50D in 3x3 Line Skipping.
4096x1968 @ 23.976
50D_3x1_4096x1968_M27-2334_frame_2.png Un-Squeezed Vertically
50D_3x1_4096x656-M27-2334_000002.dng Vertical Squeezed
So the crop factor on this is 1.76 of full frame (@ 4k(4096) there a crop factor of 1.16 of the 50D sensor plus a 1.6 crop factor of full frame if using full frame lens that is)
So just to refresh every one memory , the 50D senor resolution is 4752x3168 .

This will be very useful for me. I use 50D MLV professionally (marketing videos). It works very well, but the resolution is not ideal. With your last build I was able to record in very high res, but with too much crop factor. This anamorphic mode will enable me to get the best out of 50D, without cropping that much. Amazing.

Thanks ZEEK!

Damn, what a beautiful lens. Great job ZEEK.
I noticed the sky is dark. Did you use a red filter or polarizer? Or just reduced blue brightness? I really like this. When I photographed with Ilford HP5 years ago, I used to use a red filter to get this same dramatic effect.
Any idea how I can get this lens too? Ebay? And how is the mount conversion?

Adobe Raw DNG to Tiff 16bit
Photopshop Tiff denoise  resize denoise  and sharpening ( made  action  run Automate Batch)
After Effect Tiff   export  prores 4444 + H264 youtube
Try MLVApp. It will not only process the MLV file better, but also much faster. Here: https://ilia.xyz/MLV-App/

great app first of all.

recently I have bought a spider color checker.
it comes with a software that can export color profile for you cam + lens after taking a raw picture of a color plate.
this could be achieved using a  stand alone software or a plug in for lightroom.

is there a possible way to use this color profile under MLV app ?

It creates a DCP file @koopg? Currently there's no way to input DCP files in MLVApp. Are you using this to get correct white balance? Try a simple 18% gray card... MLVApp has a WB picker.

Yes, this would be a new development.

I requested this before here and here, but upon some reading of the RT code, the Lab feature requires many core functions. Might be really difficult to adapt it to mlvapp.
@2blackbar The feature CIECAM02 in advanced tab can be a better way to bring correct saturation to shadows. Instead of using a "film-like" curve, try to increase "Brightness + Colorfulness (QM)" in CIECAM first. From my tests, this method of correcting exposure adapts shadow/highlight saturation very well already. Sometimes it's not even necessary to use Lab adjustments...

This is my priorities :Get 50D in to the crop_rec code at the same level as the 5D2 (including Anamorphic)
Nice! 50D is a 12 years old camera that still rocks so much. Anamorphic mode will be great. Thanks for all your work on this @reddeercity.

output device transform set to whatever you are using (i am using srgb d60 sim)
Try Rec.2020... youtube is accepting 10-bit Rec.2020 now (HDR).

output gamma BMD video gen4
Why is that? BMD is not exactly a best-practice for anything...

Overall I think this processing is very good. I would just like to see how much you can push tones, testing in very contrasted landscapes and bright colors. There's no Red Maple tree in your area? It has red tones useful for testing this kind of thing, specially because of chromatic contrast with the blue sky...
Keep experimenting @70MM13! I like these threads where we can discuss good color grading techniques.

Just quick test  .
MLV export DNG
DNG  denoise and resize

Much better. What software did you use? Converting from MLV to DNG will take no effect on image quality.

He didn't say the Raw recording resolution and FPS. Probably 1920x1080 24fps at 10-bit.
The price of this camera will be very high.
Dunno, more excited about Sigma FP.

This is really good. Impressive.
The scene at 1m10s is like a paint. I would easily print that and put on my wall.
The motion blur is great too, very cinematic. MKIII never disappoints.
Well done @paulheran!

Hi Luther
Thanks for comment .I'm sure operator error....
pushing mid and shadow
correct WB and Gamma
Nothing wrong with your mlvapp settings... I think you just underexposed too much, so your noise is popping more. Or EOS M just has a bad ISO performance compared to Fuji, who knows.

For Black pro mist  watch Amazon for sale I have two 1/4  and one 1/8
Yeah, I'll see if I can get one of these. Do you suggest 1/4 or 1/8? I'm worried 1/4 will be too strong for most situations...

That looks intriguing. Have you tried them personally?
Nah, way above my pay grade.
But I have contacted them some time ago and it seems pretty solid. They mapped the color palette using ACES.

Those LUTs cost more than a 5Dmark3 so I'm probably good XD
Yes, they are meant for big companies.

I find the picture comes cleaner than working with underexpose footage.
That's for sure. You'll have less noise if you overexpose. But, as you've said yourself, you need to be careful not to clip highlights. The way I do it is using raw histogram. Expose the image until it reaches the maximum to the right, without clipping. If the image still has cruched shadows (even after ETTR), then use dual-iso (normally 100-400 is better).
In situations like daylight, a ND filter might be necessary to get 1/48 shutter speed.

Tone mapping is set to the default rec709. I've tried zeeks method of using BDMflm but looks weird on my shots.
Test Tonemapping to "Alexa Log-C" and Gamut to AP0 or AP1. From my tests it gives the best results on MLVApp, you just need to work with the curves to get correct contrast.

Nice colors in 02m43s. Too much contrast (maybe some highlight compression/rolloff), but it's great. Are you using wide gamut on mlvapp?
Nice shots @ngemu!

Where did all this noise came from? Damn. Did you exposed right? Also, you did any pushing in mlvapp?
Quote1/4 Black pro mist
Have been looking to buy one of these for years now. Seem like a great filter for indoor shooting and portraits.

Oh boy, you're going to have a hard time trying to replicate 70mm Kodak Vision3. That's the dream digital cameras have been pursuing since the beginning.
But, your color palette is surprisingly close. I also like the film grain in there (even though youtube compression fucked it).
Have anyone tried those Cinegrain LUTs yet? They seem neat for film emulation.

I prefer them over my Contax Zeiss (But don't tell anyone ;D).
How dare you said that, Zeiss Planar best lens ever!1!11!! :P

Beautifully rendered @Luther and the contrast looks amazing especially coming from a 50 year old glass... :)
Thanks. Some pixel pipping using mlvapp always helps the low contrast of the lens :p
Maybe I will do a video test, got inspired by what @york824 did.

Beautiful @york824! Really liked it. Also, great music choices.

I added ACES AP1 as additional processing gamut to our repository. Thank you.
Nice, thanks @masc!

Handbrake won't encode huge resolutions with nvenc h.264 either btw.
I was talking about CRF values.
Quote
-crf replaced by -cq but the quality is different between -crf 18 and -cq 18, need further testing
-qp also works for me. Normally the value ~23 works well for 1080p.

Heh, they have no clue what "open" means. This is why you can't let marketing guys take care of technical terms.

Blackmagic RAW is defined as an Open Standard because it is cross-platform and open for anybody to include in their products/develop with using our free SDK.

As for Luther's suggestion, he's probably thinking of a simple slider for Constant Quality RF. No parsing required.
Yes, like HandBrake does.
#198
One frame from the tests. Quite nice, considering the lens I'm using is 50 years old :) Also, the iso is 200, there's some noise. Processed with MLVApp.

Click for full-res.

Commandline is no good idea. One single wrong or unexpected symbol brings the whole thing to crash. If you like other options, you could change the numbers in source code and compile. This is the simplest, fastest and safest way to get what you want.
Changing parameter elements dynamically in dependency to codec is extremely overkill IMO.

And who said anything about command line imput? I agree that parsing can go wrong, but the first suggestion I agreed was to add a Qt box to select some common options in h.264. No parsing issues, it's just hardcoded. Particularly the CRF value (from ~18 to ~34) and the Preset option (from 'fast' to 'slow') would be useful. Also, for h.264, ffmpeg has NVENC, which speeds up the encoding using GPU...

I don't even use H.264 while on MLVApp, I export in ProRes. But, these options would be nice for people that want faster exporting times or just a highly-compressed preview of some scene (a "daily", as some people call it).

Wow. That seems good.
Got some pink frames while testing again today with 50D, but nothing too bad. It's working nicely with in 2560x1072px 10-bit.
