Lol! Yeah come on xNINELIVES! Time you took the plunge mate ;)

Yeah, maybe your right... Its just the Raw recording files keep updating, do you just replace the old files with the new files? The zips you archived in your post include files modified by you. Where can I find the original source files that you archived?

Also I don't have a 45mb/s card yet... Need to get one of those or get a extreme pro.

Try it and see :)  It does. That h264 went through like 3 resize operations.

Where is the footage comparison?
#427
It's true I'm waiting for anything near a 1880 X 800 (2.35 aspect ratio). I'm doubting that 720p upscale to 1080 could look as good as 1080p h264.

not sure if anyone has reported;

mememe - when using the focus ring on a lens that reports to the camera - 24-105 IS L series II - the focus assist pops up automatically, at 5% is corrupt image, functions fine at 10%, but any time the focus ring is touched this happens.

also the ML settings screen vanishes by itself on occasion.

side question - what frame size/aspect has given us the longest record time / greatest amount of frames?

Well there isn't one exact frame, its just a resolution at which point the card can write the same speed of the file size of the video. We calculate this by MB/s. The maximum length of video is when the file hits its 4GB cap. There are settings which can restart the video when this point occurs. The maximum resolution keeps increasing, I don't know the current highest. Wait for other members to respond with this information.

[113] NewRes [no raw con] 24fps

This is so great!

1792x672   180, 180, 180 frames (hack on 180, 195, 195) upscale 107%           107% man!!!, it's AMAZING and almost 200 frames!!!
1728x672   225, 225, 225 (hack on 240, 240, 240) upscale ~111%
1664x624   612, 648, 630 (with hack on - 730, 738, 756)   upscale 115,5%

1664x704 225, 224, 224.

I am going to sleep but this is awesome! Seems new default resolution for me would be now 1664x624  :D
And can now shoot ~8 sec with resolution with upscale factor 107%  :D

Once 12 and 10 bit raw comes out I believe that you will be able to shoot full 1080p with the same amount of frames. 12 bit vs 14 bit is negligibly different.

That's pretty much what is happening already dude  :)

What about advancements in actual write speed?

Is it possible to allocate other system memory to the buffer memory, effectively increasing the time it takes for the buffer to fill?
#432
Does this modification work for other cameras besides the 5d Mark III? Nice find by the way.  Keep it up!

I'm not scientifically saying that this works (really must stop using words like "definitely and proof" lol) but in my repeated testing this seems to work out better for me. No idea why but when I switch from s3 to s1 it works better. Best thing you can do is try dude. If it doesn't affect it then I'm just getting lucky.

I haven't installed ML yet. I waiting for advancements in Raw video. Or until the stable official release of ML comes out for the 6D.

Also - I know we have discussed this a lot but choosing S1 jpeg def increases writes speed. EVERY time I choose it the speed jumps straight to 39+ then levels out at about 38.9-39.1 (never had these speeds before).

When I choose S3 for example - levels at about 38-39 but takes a while to get there. dunno if it's simply switching between the modes or the modes themselves but there's a noticeable difference and a solid pattern to prove that s1 wins.

Can other people try this so we can see if there is a difference? Which is better for you? S1 or S3? (S1 Higher quality by the way).

Wait. So you're saying that if you change the picture size; which, to my knowledge is irrelevant; allows the camera to write faster during raw video recording?

Nice dude - squeezing quite a bit more out when shooting at 1536x642 (was getting around 1,200 frames before and now up to 1,508).

Format cleans all shots of card and keeps ML as expected although raw_rec still lists files to playback even tough it doesn't have anything there. I guess that this is something stored in the module and not that it's reading from the card?

1536x864 has gone from 108 frames to 127

How did you manage to increase the frame counts?  Nice job man,  please keep an eye out for more.

Yeah, but I want to modify it, to add support for 10bit and 12bit raw. Almost done ;)

Thank you for working on this!

What does a monstrous bit rate like the one's capable with this mod actually benefit in terms of image quality? Can I see some comparisons, just interested. Thanks.

So does this mean the first stable release, available from the homepage, will be released?

There is a specific canon raw video calculator.  I forgot where I found it. Google magic lantern raw and go to news.  There's dome Germany website and on the website there is a link to use it.

Never mind here it is: http://www.slashcam.de/tools/ml-raw-calc.html
#440
If this is accomplished I feel like (I'm completely speculating) the 5d mark iii can support 4k with motion jpeg.
#441
Before deciding which card is better, remember that I am talking about actual write speed not possible write speed.

Now the two cards are:
Sandisk 45Mb/s Extreme
Sandisk 95Mb/s Extreme Pro

Regardless of price which yields better performance, via benchmarks on a Canon 6D's supposed 50mb/s or 45 mb/s limit? Does the Extreme actually yield better performance than the extreme pro like some of the users here have said, or is that just a misconception?

I've tried for one year or so and gave up. Too hard to get decent results.

Ok
#443
Out of curiosity A1ex why won't you try fixing?

We should leave this thread to development discussion of making 12/10 bit encoding possible, before considering what advantages it will have with RAW recording.

Ok :) it may be an incentive for other developers not yet dedicated implementing this feature yet, then again they probably already knew...
#445
If the devs here get 12 bit working I think it will be possible for the 6D to shoot in 1880x817 resolution. From other photos taken in 14 and 12 bit raw I found the difference to be about 79% of the file size of a 14 bit photo. So with 1880x817 resolution requiring 55mb/s x .79 = 43.45mb/s. The highest 6D write speed I've seen is 41.7mb/s so within 2mb do you guys think it would be sustainable? Am I doing any of the math or analysis wrong?

Or is there a way to have real time 24p compression? Something to allow for higher resolutions?

Feature Requests / [WONTFIX] Video Auto focus?
May 27, 2013, 05:47:03 AM
I know this has to be possible but can you guys implement a continuous auto focus system for video?  It will make DSLRs with the new RAW video hack great cinema cameras!

The module isn't fast enough.. 10/12 bit will probably have to be done via registers.

Registers?  What are those?

Dude - can we just remind you that the Devs are working their asses off in their free time to give you what you already have. Please be patient and keep it polite. Thanks :)

Yeah I'm not mad at them.  I understand they're working hard, it just angers me than canon didn't place a CF card slot in the 6D.

Because ML offers more control, for example when it comes to WB you can open the submenu and modify loads of stuff (auto WB, magenta/green balance, etc.) and the ISO menu item also makes intermediate ISO values (such as 160, 320...) possible for bodies that don't have it. Besides, it's handy to have everything grouped together  :)

thanks
