Wow! happy to see the higher resolution back on the 5D2, it works at 1872 pixels, but it has a bug that allows it to go up to 1879, and once it has gone up there, it goes down to odd numbers like 1863, and the weird numbers cause recording to stop after 3 seconds and then all kinds of 'corruption' messages appear. But 1872 works!!!!! only tried 14 bit so far :D

I tried the new builds on the 5D2 and pink frames are gone. Just split image on every other frame, about half of the frame for 10 bit is covered and most of it for 12 bit, the split part of the frame is always the same, seems to be from the first frame or something. Tested in 1856x1044 16:9 and 1856x1250 3:2 in 23.976fps.

Sorry Danne, I had that idea stuck in my head from a few days of SD-CF adapter usage, but testing it right now on a 1066x card it is almost perfect, but at least for me on the 5D mark II, theres still a slight difference between 'all' and 'exact' in black and white, so not 100% real time. Yeah sorry about the black and white nonsense, I probably assumed that conclusion. But yes there is a massive difference in colour playback when enabling/disabling the module.

I can confirm it works on the 5D mark II using raw-bit-depth branch. Black and white playback is not too far from realtime, and colour is much faster too, but both have split jello image thingy going on. Really good improvement!

@Deadcode @reddeercity I have also tried all the settings you list and many other options, I can't get it to work without half corrupt frames, or splitting/slicing on the lower half, and I have the same build situation on my camera. But it is definitely amazing for crop mode, as it can be full res 2144x1076 and continuous :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D How might this issue be fixed, and what help can the users give?
#981
@Deadcode to fix magenta cast/black level on crop mode with 5D2 10bit use exiftool:
exiftool -BlackLevel=108 *.dng
This command fixes every frame in the directory, and for 12 bit the black level would be 4* that probably

@reddeercity Uploaded the module: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwvDlbhZgsGGbHBxeVpBTXJ4Zlk/view?usp=sharing, maybe you'll have some more success than I did.
After some more testing with ML grayscale, I have concluded that it does't yet fully work with the 5D mark ii, whatever I try, there's always something going wrong every other frame in 10 bit, either a pink frame or the bottom half is of another frame, and 12 bit seems to have weird colourful static all the time :'(.
#983
I mean this: first frame is fine, no corruption or pink artifacts, the next is all pink and corrupted, no image, then another fine one, another corrupted... and this cycle continues, so only half of the frames are not ruined, and when played back(which MlRawViewer refused to do), it just flashes pink every other frame.

Edit: @dmilligan just saw your post, thanks for clarifying, I will test again.
#984
Tested it on a 5D2, almost works, 10 bit works on every other frame, the rest are pink, and 12 bit also works on every other frame with the rest being completely pink. I have uploaded some DNG files made with MLP. I tried in full sensor resolution and 16:9, full sensor made 12 bit completely pink, but I only tested that once. Here are the 10 and 12 bit DNG files including 14 bit for comparison: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwvDlbhZgsGGY1BUM2tyN0YwdVk/view?usp=sharing The boring shot of a map is not enough to judge quality, but I think 10 and 12 bit look the good as 14 bit in this case.

"Disclaimer": I don't know if I missed anything, or did anything wrong, is there anything else to enable other than raw_rec module?

@nexiabass It took me a while to understand what exactly you are doing there, but I see now. I tried changing it through ML menu and it does seem to avoid going to 25600 after going down. Not sure if its a bug or a feature, maybe its there to stop you using too much Canon digital iso, but I don't know it might be a bug.

@nexiabass iso 25600 is only in photo mode, but you can use magic lantern iso options to boost it 1 stop for h264 video.

And a question to anyone who knows, why did raw_rec disappear?? looking through the builds, it has not been there since the start of September, so is it a bug or intentionally done? Or is there going to be a switch to MLV Lite?
I'll be really sad if it's gone as it only seemed to get faster every build and could record 1856x1044 continuously until my 32gb Lexar 1066x filled up. Is this the end of raw_rec?

@mz  Without opening the menu up like that, use the scroll wheel on top of the camera to adjust the resolution in increments of 32 pixels.

@Simonwb Ha ha only my videotapes! Thank you for the kind words

@Deadcode Thanks. The adapter was a Komputerbay, and it actually got 24.0MB/s read and 23.1MB/s write speed with the quick benchmark, although it stayed under 22 while recording, the SD cards I used were Sandisk Extreme(not PRO) 45MB/s U1 left over from my GH2 days, a 16GB and a 64GB. I used the same max 16:9 resolution of 1856x1044 while the SD cards were on duty, so that gave me 135 to 138 frames, almost 6 seconds per take. I tested with a resolution of 1728x972, that gave around 167 frames, almost 7 seconds.

Thank you for taking the time to reply :) My grading process isn't efficient and takes ages as I don't know all the Magic Lantern techniques, but it goes like this: I import the clips in to After Effects one by one, adjusting them all in Camera RAW to how I like, lots of vibrance/saturation and highlight/shadow adjusting, also I avoid the contrast slider as it seems to cause flickering in a lot of cases, so I find the curves is better for adding contrast. Another thing I find important in Camera RAW to achieve a sharper image is to set the radius of the sharpening to 0.5 so that sharpening is on a smaller scale, making details look smaller, therefore giving the image a sharper look and within After Effects I scale the image to 2.5k, maybe not necessary but useful for online uploading. After I've exported the clips and am editing them in Final Cut I add Filmconvert as a final step, using the GH2 Nostalgic profile and usually the standard "Kodak" preset, then turn the colour effect and the grain down to about 50%.
That's it, the post took ages on this video.

Who else loves the word videotape? I'm obsessed with it

I haven't done much video related things for over a year, but now that I got a 5D Mark II this year I really want to get back in to it. This is the first "proper" thing I've made for ages.
Shot in RAW of course

Lenses: Helios 44, Mir 1, Jupiter 9, Takumar 135mm and Cosina 19-35

Or on Youtube:

Thanks

I'm not an expert, but I would say that the RAW is better in most ways. RAW even in 720p seems to be sharper than canon 1080p in most cases, and for short takes you could set higher than 720p resolution. HDR video will only match/exceed RAW in terms of dynamic range, but is no substitute for the 14 bit RAW image in terms of how extreme you can grade it, and it will probably have issues with fast moving action as well as being a pain to look at before HDR processing. You could always use RAW and HDR and get the worst of both :D

Very nice. I also got a 5D2 recently, first proper magic lantern experience for me(upgraded from the 5DC) Just wanted to ask, did you use crop mode at all?
#994
I'm still new to magic lantern and the 5D mark ii, I'm enjoying reading the development threads, 10 or 12 bit raw sounds very exciting. Ive been wondering though, why has the resolution been limited to 1856 from 1872(or 1880)? any chance of it going back? I have searched the forum for answers, but I couldn't find anything relevant, although I'm sure I'll someone will tell me that I don't know how to search. Also playing around with silent pictures the resolution is not the standard canon 5616, but 5632, and according to mlrawviewer, 5792, so if the sensor really has 5792 pixels width, could the mark ii potentially get full 1080p raw? as 5792/3 ≈ 1930

Wish I had development skills.

Thanks :D

I recently upgraded from my 5D classic to a mark ii so that I could do video, and I have been finding Magic Lantern really good. This is the first film I have made with it, not the best example of using raw video and I still have lots to learn. Here it is:

Thank you Magic Lantern developers.
