We also can raise funds to create an incredible How-To tutorial section for ML.  I have some very successful Wordpress Tutorials with millions of viewers & would be happy to help with this side of the project if it were funded properly.

I vote for a Kickstarter Campaign for Magic Lantern.  There are many people who are not "hackers" who would love to have this on their firmware.

We can run this as a nonprofit education-only tool & apply the money for research only to ensure it follows any laws set by Canon.

As you can see in the chart below, film & video projects are funded very often & quite successful. 

We are also all filmmakers.  Wouldn't it be cool if we all got together and made one massive video showcasing how Magic Lantern has helped us on projects?  My entire film business wouldn't even exist without ML. 

Let's go global and kickstart this thing for 4k RAW production by the end of 2013!

Sweet, thanks for that. I'm used to my 7D batteries going for ages! I have read somewhere that as 50D not designed for video, it will use a lot of power (live view etc)  All good though.

Got 2 more batteries on the way so will be sorted soon enough. Still would be good to get some more input. Anyone using NEW Canon batteries out there? How long you get out of them shooting RAW video?

I have owned a few 50Ds for a couple of years.  The battery life is phenomenal and I would base all your issues on old or cheap batteries.  I use Canon originals, then also 2200mAh replacements designed for CNBP511.  Bought for about $11 each on Amazon a few years back & still going strong. 

I have shot over 500 hours of 1080p video footage on the same batteries for my film production company where each charge lasts approximately 90 minutes per battery.  With the 50D charger, this is up to 3 hours per charge using Magic Lantern.  You could argue that this was HD and not RAW, but I've also used the 50D as an actual camera with over 2,000 shutter actuations per charge over the course of 5 hours on various swimsuit photoshoots.

The short: this camera is a tank & I'm glad to see so many other users finally realizing it is the hidden gem in the Canon lineup.  My photos with it: OpenVase - video with it on my Youtube.

Slightly OT  but have any of you 50d users posted any plain old H.264 footage online. I'm getting mine tomorrow and want to see what the 1080p video quality is like compared to my 600d. I've only seen shaky footage on Youtube so I can't really tell. I presume for normal video that you would shoot in manual mode?

I've shot over 100 videos with my 50D + T2i + T3i combo.  Looking forward to getting RAW on the 50D.  The quality on it is great in 1080p & it always has the best image of the 3 cameras, hands down. 

I was planning on upgrading to 6D, but if RAW works, I'll donate a bit here & use the money for lenses.  I can also see myself trading in my t2i & t3i for another 50D or two.
