I use this steps: (the render cache is a kind of proxy)
http://timeinpixels.com/2014/12/improve-davinci-resolve-performance-3-steps/

4GB should be your problem using Resolve. 8GB is minimum. If you are using a macbook, also graphics could be a problem. My imac has a 512MB ATI.

Maybe the other workflow posted here is better then.

What mac do you have? I have the smallest imac 2011, and Resolve 11.3 works good, with some proxy tricks also in realtime.

Hello,

this is the last music video I did with my band. It is filmed 100% with magic lantern mlv on a EOS 5D Mark II. While filming all worked like a charme. Then I had big problems (crashes) with mlvfs - 200GB of raw files were to much - so I seperated the files to 7 ~30GB folders. Then it worked perfectly and I could grade and cut in Resolve. Thanks to the magic lantern community! Your work is great!
The songs theme is a difficult one: violence against children and women.
But I hope you enjoy the video anyway!

Well as soon as I click on the 'Z' after 'MyComputer' ... it freezes and have to force quit and restart as expected.

So how come it works on your end, @masc?

Doesn't seem to do anything? Drag from Mac windows into MLVP is what I did ... is what what you were referring to?

Hm, okay... for me that works. I'm still on SnowLeo.

2nd way: Open Wineskin inside the package -> "Advanced" -> "Configuration" -> "Associated Extensions" -> "+", enter "MLV" as extension and "C:\Program Files\mlvp.alpha.build<xxxx>\MLVProducer.exe "%1"" as command. Then you can associate mlv with MLVP and doubleclick on your mlv (or just "Open with..."). It opens automatically! ;-)

Does WineSkin support multithreading?
Yes, it does!

Hej AWPStar: I tried it on OSX: works great, thanks for your great work! The only bug I found is the same as before: entering something in the line edits will chrash the program. But we already found a workaround for that (settings file).

@Levthon: everything you ask here is written in the documentation and in this forum. Just read...
#2135
Oh... right... if you try that in the main window it chrashes too (when no mlv is opened).
Try it in the settings dialog, apply, restart program, that works for me.
#2136
@AWPStar: some more information for you:
Clicking on the Output folder '...' button in the main gui:
The error is "Run-time error '91': Object variable or With block variable not set"
Clicking in the settings window on the '...' buttons brings:
The error is "Run-time error '445': Object doesn't support this action"

It may be a wine bug and not your fault. The web is full with such vb error messages using wine... but I can't see a real solution.
#2137
Copy/Paste to the text field works also. Do you use another library for the folder selection (we should install that too)? In other programs I use that makes no problem. Your file selection dialog (Import MLRAW under "file") works fine.
#2138
@AWPStar: thanks. That works now! :)
@DeafEyeJedi: have you seen Post127 & Post128? Not perfect, but works...
#2139
@AWPStar: I always record with 25fps. In your Info-Tab this is also written. When I render, I have only 24fps. Is there a way to set that up?
#2140
@AWPStar: thanks, that works!
@all Mac users: the line in the settings.set must be (just change "yourProfileName") if you like to output to your Desktop:
outputdir[/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/<yourProfileName>/Desktop]
#2141
 ;)
The only "bug" I can see, is that the program chrashes when changing the output folder. But when just rendering there is no problem. The output video file is then inside the .app package... so no real problem.

Thats the first step, what you have there. Click on "Update", than the wrapper installs. Now WineSkin is ready to work on your system.

Click on Create new blank wrapper. WineSkin builds a wrapper now. Install all you get in the following windows.

When ready you have an .app! So your Windows Program can look like a OSX .app. In this package, there is another app: a helping program. First time you click on your wrapper this opens automatically. Open this one.

Press on install software. "copy a folder inside", select it.

When pressing on "advanced", you'll get more buttons:
Under the first tab you can select your copied .exe, and config under associated extensions what happens when opening an .mlv with this app.

Under "Tools" you'll find "winetricks". There you search under dll for "Visual Basic 6 Runtime". Install it.

That should be all. MLV Producer runs than nearly like an native OSX application.

First time using it, it may be a little confusing. But really... it is very simple and runs with a lot of windows programs.

VMWare has less performance than Wine, because you are running than two operation systems at once. Therefor Wine is less compatible. But for this program, Wine is sufficient.
@DeafEyeJedi: yes.
#2144
I use WineSkin, install it inside, plus the visual basic libraries (installs semi automatically using winetricks, a part of wine). Thats all.
#2145
Very nice program! AND: it runs perfectly on OSX 10.6.8 using wine WITHOUT openGL graphic card! For me now the one and only working player for my system! Thank you!
#2146
I have exactly this graphics card (Radeon HD 6750M) in my iMac, but with only 512MB. Works not great but good enough with DR11. That means, mlv real time playback is only possible without any correction. With correction I have a slideshow... but it's okay for adjusting and for rendering.

Haha, cool! When have you been there? I was the last april week there this year, filmed 350GB+ mlv there, had the 5DII+16-35 f2.8 L with me... and for me the most funny... I took the same music behind my scenes without knowing your video! :-D Unfortunately I don't have it online in the web to show you...
You did a great work, specially the timelapses are great! In some scenes the color is to intensive in my opinion... but nothing to worry about. Respect! :-)
#2148
Now I tried your second tip - subfolders. This seems to work. Thanks for your help! With that little workaround I can live. :-)

Thank you for your fast answer!
What I did now: I deleted all IDX files. Then I mounted again. As you said it builds the IDX files again. And you are right - I was to fast - that takes for this amount of data on my hardware around 15min (the drive is slow, I know...)! If I click in this time on any option on the webgui, mlvfs stops immediatelly creating IDX files. So I closed my browser when it pops up to not disturb mlvfs. RAM und CPU consumption is very low. Only <20MB RAM and <25% CPU. After all IDX are created I tried to start the browser watching the webgui... the gui is not there (server not found). Clicking on the mounted drive makes it away... mlvfs is listed no longer in the OSX activity window then.
After a system restart I tried mounting again. I waited until the CPU usage of mlvfs is listed with 0%. Opening the browser and going onto the webgui brings mlvfs to 100% CPU usage (on one core) and around 110MB RAM. There seems to be no access on the hard drive where the MLV files are located, the disk LED is not blinking. I can access the mounted folder and I see the DNGs, but I can't access the webgui. I am waiting now another 20min and nothing changes... the browser says "waiting for localhost...".

I have started to experience a problem with MLVFS.

MLVFS has worked great for a few months. Now every so often when I go to load a large folder (500GB) of MLV for us in Davinci it just won't load. The MLFVS folder keeps ejecting its self, or Davinci doesn't see that the files are in davinci mode and instead see's empty folders. I end up restarting my computer about 10 times, reloading the folder over and over and eventually the problem is solved. It's then permanently solved and I can load and unload the footage repeatedly no problem. It seems to happen when have round tripped back to Davinci having not loaded the MLFVS for a while.

Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to overcome it in a timely manner?

I think I have the same problem. For smaller projects around 50GB it works great.

Now I have a bigger project with around 400GB (around 350 mlv files). Mostly the folder (mlvfs drive) mounts first, but in the browser I can't see a connection to the page which should pop up. If I click on the folder, it will be away up to the next system restart - no way to eject it or to access.

If I take only a few files of the project, around 150GB (100 mlv files) all seems to work fine. With only some more files the problem begins: the page will first be shown in the browser and I can access the mounted folder, after some minutes the page is away and the folder too.

/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports is empty.

Thanks for your help in advance!
