Yeh whatever grade or filter applied to the DNGs definitely killed detail, but I liked the 99% of the shots. All of them except ending with the catacombs to me was weird. The other stuff was all cool though. Slo mo, slightly slo mor, hyperlapse, slo rotations, timelapse, etc. In fact, I think some of the content of the shots was so good, I started to not care about crushed shadows.

Thank u, yeah the crushed details in the shadows was an artistic look I went with that's all. Made me lose lots of details.

I like the dreamy slowmotion in the first part. Speed of the edit is well done to the speed of the music.
Only thing which could be perhaps better is the dark shadows in some shots. Since it was shot in raw I think you could have lifted the shadows a bit more in the very contrasty middle of the day shots.

Thanks, yeah actually at 1st I had more details in the shadows but then I went with the look with flat dark areas and was hesitating between the two wanted to show details of the raw, and wanted the flat dark areas so I tried to mix between the two but ended up killing a lot of details for it...

What resolution were you recording at? Sorry to say, but I do see the same softness over most of the 6D raw videos I've seen.. Especially wide shots with lots of detail, the details seem to murk together somehow..

Did you try adding noise to dither the image more?

What is holding me back is the lack of videos on the net where people used this lens... I find a couple of reviews on youtube, but to be honest I think those guys will praise any lens they get from a lens manufacturer, to stay under their wings.. So I don't trust their reviews and secondly the guys who used the lens were more in to photography too...

I assume you did some defishey on the footage in this video, if so, how much? what kind? Did you try with Fisheye Hemi - Defisheying in Photoshop? I've seen some wonderful results with photographs using the 12 mm and the Hemi plugin, I am wondering how it comes out with video.

And 3x crop mode, how does it come out with the 12 mm?

Basically.. I wanna shoot fisheye with this lens and make it not look like fisheye... Then I am happy. Would love for some DNG's to see what I can get with this lens.

Actually due to the fact that u was testing the raw videos as well so I kinda tried lots of different resolution but ended up with the highest res u can use with the 16:9 non crop at 25 or 30 fps.

The softness is due to the compression of the video, one from 1080p to 720p at 5Mbits/s then comes the vimeo...  Resulting the smooth video so ended up with 180mb,  I think it's limit for streaming couldn't go less without losing more and higher res became a lot slower to stream for people.

For the samyang 12mm in my opinion I think it's one of the best fisheyes comparing quality and price, it's very gd specially for the distortion. But then again like Levas said if u don't want a fish eye get the 14 mm.

I did not defisheying a lot in the movie few shots one or two max.

Bottom line if u want a fisheye I strongly recommend this one. Specially for landscape and astrophotography

Edit:Sorry forgot about the cons:

The think is that it's fully manual so u need to pay attention on ur focus coz in the display screen it's not that obvious. So I advise u to use ML zoom to focus, but then again if it's for landscape just put on infinity and u're gd to go. Other than that the lens is very gd. And pretty sharp too at f4 / 5.6

No there's only one shot with the GoPro the one where the pigeon flies, and it's not even in slow motion. the rest is with the 6d

With the 6D did you shoot in h264 or RAW?

Few weeks back, I decided to make a short movie of this beautiful city Paris. So took my camera, started filming here and there and this is what I've came up with.

Canon 6D
GoPro 4 Black 
Canon EF 24-105 mm f/4 L
Samyang 12 mm f/2.8 (for Full Frame Cameras)
Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8

Shot in June - July 2015
Whole movie filmed handheld except for the time-lapse I used a Vanguard Espod 203AP tripod

what is VAF?

Does anyone have a solution for jaggy edges (moire) in raw video? is it possible to make it less visible in after effects?

It's not just in raw mode. U can try with raw therapee but no matter what u do there will always be visible.(well u can take that part on a single frame and track ur video, but that doesn't work in all cases)  so U need to avoid this by taking less sharp footages while shooting or get a filter for moire that u put over ur censor or crop mode. Gd luck

i want to know whats the highest continues recording raw video time(and with what resolution) with sound on 6D . i want to record straight footage until my card is full  (128gb)

can you record sound using mlvrec raw video with the latest nightly build? also can someone whos expriemtning with raw video tell me, if its possible to make at least 7 minutes raw footage without any hickups in the ML? thanks

For longer recording U need to lower the resolution

I don't do the video thing and thus haven't encountered these before. One question though: Is this with vanilla Canon h264 video, or with h264 and ML tweaks, or with a custom ML raw video module?

In any case, imho good thing 6d.116 is merged and there's more widespread testing - with the multitude of configs and use scenarios out there it's virtually impossible to finalize some beta build only through a handful of daring testers compiling it themselves or grabbing it of  a buried forum thread.

Was using MLV

The "busy" bug seems to be common from builds starting from May. It started from 113 builds. Random thing, sometimes it can work fine for hours, sometime it says "busy" and you have to turn camera off. This is a bug, has nothing with "busy" message when buffer is written to card.

Anyone faced these problems b4?
1-Some times if u were taking a video and u switch to photos and try to focus the cam says it's busy and doesn't focus until u turn it off and on.
2- while in video mode, and the LCD screen dim light goes down, the brightness won't come back up no matter what u do, also need to turn off and on

you're using the lens wide open at 1.8.
You're seeing reflections or shapes from lenses inside your nikkor, lighted by the many lights in your night scene.
I bet those halos disappear when you stop down to f2.8 or maybe you need to go to f4.0.
But since you're already at iso 3200, stopping down isn't much of an option  [emoji14]

Most lenses are not so good wide open, very normal for 50mm high speed primes.
Most of them are soft wide open, others show this type of halos, especially towards the edges.
You can see in your frame that the halos getting bigger on the edges.

Has anyone faced some sort of weird halo( kind of like out of focus) from night lights while shooting in raw?
U can see the image below check out at the bottom right.
Was using a 50mm Nikkor, with a converter, at 1.8,  3200 iso
Is it coz of high iso? Or the large aperture? Or is it the lens?

But I had that problem when I did normal movie record not raw. After I removed ML all was ok, and than i put it back and same problem is back.

Did u disable raw/mlv recording module?

Hi,

I have a Canon 6d and used magic lantern previously and worked great. I updated to 1.1.6 and downloaded the latest build, and now I'm getting the error message "movie stopped automatically" or It stops after a few seconds.

Forums said it was the card so I got a 280 mb/s card and still having the same issue.

ML worked on this camera before... what can I do to fix this?

Sorry to tell u but 280mb/s is kinda useless for the 6d, the cam can only rec at 40mb/s or 45 max.
If u're recording in raw it's normal the recoding stops after few seconds, it u want more time u need to lower ur resolution or disable raw recording and use H.264

I tried two different 3rd party batteries and no prob so far. Didn't even get the msg that most talked about.

LR removes automatically removes most of dead pixels as well.

Hello Yeah those pixels appears at iso 6400 (not sure if 3200 too should try it tonight) . I was able to remove most but there are still a lot and as they go randomly on each frame they flicker while playing the video. And I realized that it's only on highlights area.

If it's not too much to ask can u try like iso 6400 in medium light room and see if u have them as well?
