Hi all,

Im running magiclantern-Nightly.2016Jun13.6D116 and Im not getting global draw when in live view, I noticed when I turned on crop marks, I dont get any crop marks or zebras at all, from what I can tell it should be turned on, is there some other setting i may have turned on that conflicts ?
or is it not working in this build?

I checked the bug tracker and couldnt see anything..

There are two Global Draw settings: one Global Draw setting in the easier-to-find "Overlay" menu, and another Global Draw setting in the actual "RAW Video" menu. Ensure that at least the Global Draw in the "RAW Video" menu is on?

Great job!
p.s.:
Best russian speech i ever heard xD Like in all american movies) I want this poster with Dalek. Give it to me)

Thanks, AWPStar! Yeah, the Russian accent was pretty Hollywood-ized, haha. I felt it added to the overall campiness of the film lol

Great story, great shot and edited!
Although the orange/teal look was a bit too much for my personal taste ;)  the skintones where very orange.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Levas!
I agree with you about the orange/teal. I tried to color grade the day scenes with a Michael Bay/Miami/California type look, but I think I pushed the color temp a bit too warm.

very good work on the 6d raw!
did you use vaf-6d filter?

Thank you, ph2007! I indeed used the VAF-6D filter. I am partial towards my 6D and wanted to get the best quality out of it before the Mark IV replaces it as my "A camera"  :P

Big UP!!

Great video! Where did you filmed it?

Thank you, extremelypoorfilmaker! I really admire your work!

This was shot in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Absolutely breathtaking video! Makes me proud to be Canadian! I too am curious about your workflow and grading technique. Were there significant gamma and sharpening adjustments made?

Thanks, _OLLE_! Means a lot!!  ;)

Share Your Videos / "Displaced" - MLV on Canon 6D
June 15, 2016, 04:36:23 PM
Hi everyone,

This is little short film is one I made for my final project in school. Let me know what you all think!

This was shot in MLV on my Canon 6D. Due to the 6D's inherent limitations, I adjusted the RAW resolution differently for almost every shot to the highest resolution possible given the amount of recording time I would think I need during a specific take.

Used a Resolve>Premiere Pro>Resolve workflow, using Cinelog-C Masters, Neat Video, and FilmConvert in post.

Cheers!

I may be wrong, but I have only been able to see the audio tab if I have enabled the mlv_snd module in the module tab. But assuming you are not wanting to record RAW, then I am not sure.  :(

Glad to hear man!
I freaked out when I first ran into this issue, as I shot a full day's worth of an important project (knowing full well of the inherent risks to begin with of course), but it's nice to know there is this fail-safe for this particular issue.

General Help Q&A / Re: Liveview aspect ratio
April 04, 2016, 06:28:59 PM
I don't have my camera in front of me right now, but I believe you would go into the RAW menu and set Global Draw to ALLOW, to enable the cropmarks during the recordings.

Hope that helped.

General Help Q&A / Re: 6D Corrupt SD Cards
March 30, 2016, 12:34:49 AM
As a matter of fact, I have actually been experiencing this with all of my SD cards since updating to the "Feb 28, 2016 1.1.6" build. If you are using a Mac, does it give you the option to "Initialize" when you insert the SD card? I have been able to restore my MLV files by selecting this, and selecting "Repair Disk" in the Disk Utility program.
#88
I was able to restore my MLV files from my SD cards on multiple occasions by selecting "Initialize" when the option appears, and "repair disk" in Disk Utility. Then I simply re-insert the SD card, and then they are accessible. This has always worked for me in my case.

Thanks so much for the clarification, Andy600! This helps tremendously.

To produce my ProRes Cinelog Masters, I set DNG colorspace to BMDFilm, enabled highlight recovery, used the BMDFilm to Cinelog-C LUT, and then applied basic color correcting and NR.

In my ProRes Cinelog Masters, I currently have the Cinelog-C to Cinelog-C Film Matrix RGB LUT in my first node, applied color grading in second node, and then have FilmConvert in third node.

If were to use the Cinelog-C to BMDFilm LUT that you mentioned, would you recommend I include it in a node before the Cinelog-C to Cinelog-C Film Matrix RGB node?

@Tyronetheterrible

After set BMCC - or BMCC4K if you prefer black at cero - , the rest is in Davinci Resolve Manual. Same as a Black Magic Camera.

Thanks for the reply budafilms! This is going to sound dumb, but, how exactly would I set it to BMCC / BMCC4K?
Normally when I would work with DNG files, I would set the Color Space and Gamma to "BMD Film" under the Camera Raw settings, enable "highlight recovery", and so on and so forth, but since these settings are inaccessible when working with ProRes Cinelog-C Masters, how would I go about doing this?

Thanks again!  :)

Question for you folks who color correct your Cinelog-C Log Masters in DaVinci Resolve; how do you go about adjusting the settings that you normally would under the Camera Raw Master Settings and Decoder Settings tab? (I.E. Exposure, Contrast, Midtone Detail, etc.)

And happy new year, everyone!  :)

This is nowhere near the caliber of quality that is usually posted on this forum, but I thought I'd share with you guys my first crack at a short film using Magic Lantern on my Canon 6D. This was made for my University class. It was definitely a learning experience, and there was only one incident of an SD card going corrupt. So I am considering myself lucky  :P

I'm still brand new to color correcting/grading, and adjusting exposure is still a challenge for me, but I flattened with the Cinelog-C LUT, denoised with Neat Video, adjusted curves and added the VisionColor M31 LUT among other corrections.
Any constructive feedback to getting a better image/color grade would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Hi Andy600,

Just wondering if there is a definitive workflow when using FilmConvert with Cinelog-C Log Masters in DaVinci Resolve? I am not sure whether or not to add FilmConvert before or after color grading the Cinelog-C Log Masters. I am also unsure of the best camera profile to use in FilmConvert to use in conjunction with the Cinelog-C Log Masters. I want to make sure I am getting the best possible results using both of these products.

Thanks!  :)

Raw Video / Re: 2.39 Ratio Missing Resolutions?

It's due to a patch/enhancement I made to decrease the amount of preset resolutions and allow for better control of the resolution. You should be able to use left/right while having the resolution selected to fine tune it in small fine grained steps.

Yes, that worked perfectly. Thank you so much, rbrune!

Raw Video / 2.39 Ratio Missing Resolutions?
October 29, 2015, 06:01:18 PM
Sorry in advance for the extremely newbie question, as there is likely a simple answer to this.

Currently using a 6D with 6D.116 build.
Now, back when I was using the 6D.113 build, I distinctly remember being able to record MLV at the 2.39 aspect ratio from a larger selection of resolutions (1504x630, 1536x642, 1699x670, 1728x724, 1792x750, etc.), however now, in terms of that particular range, I can only choose from selecting 1280x536 directly to 1600x670.

I'm not sure if it is directly correlated with the builds I am using or if it is due to something else that I haven't done, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

However, good luck getting raw 60fps (or even 48) at any respectable resolution.  The 6D is unfortunately limited to ~41MB/s, which is just barely enough to get continuous raw 24fps at full 720p.  You'd be much better off going with 720p60 h264 with bit rate cranked to 3.0x (that's what I did for my footage).

Thank you for that information, DigitalVeil, I've been trying to find what the limitations were regarding FPS Override and its respective resolution on the Canon 6D, but could not find anything.

I'm going to experiment with my 6D and see what resolution I can get with Canon 720p-60fps/ML 48fps Override, and then try to upscale it to look at least somewhat decent. I love the look of Raw video too much to let the idea go.

Excellent video, by the way!

Remember that if you're shooting 60fps, but slowing down by an additional half speed, you're essentially emulating 120fps. For motion with less blur you'll want a shutter speed of 1/240. Getting enough light indoors can become wicked tricky though.

Thank you, kyrobb, I didn't even take that into account. So you basically determine the ideal shutter speed by adding the fps value you're setting in standard canon menu with the ML fps override value you are setting it to, and then double the sum to get what your shutter speed should be.

Yes. But I am not sure what over speed your camera maxes out at.

I own a Canon 6D. I will have to look into what the max over speed would be on this camera. Thanks for your help!

Hello everybody,

As I understand it, the common way to achieve slow motion with Raw video for Canon DSLRs is by setting the standard Canon menu to record 720p at 60fps, setting the FPS Override to 48fps, then slowing it down to 24fps in post.

So, does that mean that setting the FPS Override to a higher value like "60fps" as opposed to "48fps" would allow for an even slower motion?

Thanks in advance.
