Hi,

I've been using this amazingly easy method for some time now with sucess but all of a sudden after I update my metadata the original DNGs in my folder (on my drive, outside Lr) are not altered to what I have done in lightroom escept for the first image that I have color corrected. However all of the images in lightroom have been altered just like in the first DNG image. I wonder what seems to be the problem. Confused....

I am now using 5D3 and have installed the firmware 1.1.3 using sandisk extreme pro CF-card UDMA 7 64GB 160MB/s.
I was able to install the latest nightly build of ML but the speed is the issue. The top speed I can reach is around 23-25MB/s (the same as that of SD-card even though tghe CF slot is used not the SD slot). I am selecting 1080p 24fps.
What am I doing wrong. Isn't CF card slot supposed to support close 100MB/s?

@ibrahim, do you know if the pre's on this one are better, compared to the original DR?
I have the original and sometimes it's a problem with a NTG2 and sounds that are far away or close to you, but low in dB.

I don't really know but I chose dr-60d mkii after a 4-5 months research. The only downside of it are two things:
1) The short battery life, especially with Phantom power used. I solved this problem solved using an external power bus (from anker) using 9V.
2) The headphone output has some noise which gives the impression that there is noise in the recorded sound, which isn't the case.

Despite the fact the the broadcasting quality can be recorded it is always best to analyze the audio on softwares such as Audition to "filter away" any unwanted sound. I rarely use this since I've used the tascam.

This may be a silly question but in order to shoot 1080p continuously at 24fps you used to cards, an empty SanDisk Extreme Pro 64 GB 160MB/s as well as INX 1GB SD card with ML installed on it?

If so, why use two cards instead of using ML on the CF card alone?

My priority is to record at 24fps continuously and 50fps/60fps for at least 1 minute recording as close as possible to 1080p.

Knowing that the CF interface (on the 5D3) is limited to around 100mb/s (from what I've read), is there any benefit from using 1066x card or is say 1000x enough? I am wondering since some, if not most brands, have writing speeds that exceed 100mb/s.

Entire frame of 1080p is possible in Liveview of 5D3.

According to my KB 128GB x1066 CF card:

1920x1080 @ 24fps as well as 25fps is possible for continuous recording.

1920x648 @ 60fps (stretch 1.67 in post to achieve 1080p) is also possible for continuous recording as well.

Don't forget that you can actually gain more out of 5D3 by using crop-mode... [emoji6]

Thanks that's great to know. I'm planning to purchase a 5DII but am waiting for the prices to drop a bit more.

Cheers :)

Great. Do you then manage to capture the whole frame inside Liveview's 1080p frame or only a portion of it? Because most DLSRs only capture a portion of what is seen on canon Liveview.

Knowing that the speed of such CF card is around 150-160 MB/s, what is the highest resolution possible at 24fps and at 60fps, respectively?

@ibrahim:

If budget limits you for a decent fast CF...

Look into KB 32GB 1066x

Or go for the KB 64GB 1066x if you want to record longer takes.

I'm happy with my KB 128GB 1066x so far...

Thanks for the advice.
Do you use it on 5DIII?

What is the 5d3's CF-card interface limited to in MByte/s write speed?

What write speed is required for a CF-card to record at 60fps at a resolution of 1920x1080 (or close to) continuously on a 5D3?
#185
I've been using Tascam Dr-60d MKii for a few months now. It is one of the best field recorders out there. If not the best professional field recorder to record high quality neat audio (free from hiss) for those on budget.

Many thanks Walter. Now I understand the root of my confusion; I didn't take into account that we were in CF card thread. :)
#187
Thanks Walter. I'm quite new to this so pardon me for seeming confused.

If I've understood it correctly from your calculations and that's mentioned in the previous posts, my sandisk (extreme pro SDXC I 95MB/s class 10), whose writing speed is at max 95 MB/s, should be able to record in RAW continuously at 1920x1080?

Yet what I don't understand is what do the  mean by "

Is it really that hard to understand that 5d3's SD-card interface is limited to 21 MByte/s write speed?
From my amateurish understanding the calculations and what you're saying contradict one another... therefore, it seems that I'm missing something. Thanks for the clarification.

I`m using  Sandisk Extreme PRO - 32, 160mb/s
I have 5D markIII
i can shoot without any problems :

1920x1080 RAW video at 24fps
1920x1080 RAW video at 30fps

cheers.

What is the minimum writing speed a SDXC or CF cards needs to have for 5DMKiii to record continuously at 24fps at 1080p?
#189
Ok, thanks. So I need to shrink my fps to say 10 or even lower to be able to record at higher or closer resolutions to 1728x1156. I can record at 1728x1156 continously if my fps is set at 5. I've tested it. Too bad that 600d's write speed limits ML performance despite the expensive cards I use. This brings med to next question that concerns using ML on 5D mark III, which I intend to purchase.

If I shoot at 24fps 1080p (continuous) it would not result in a cropped view (instead result in capturing the entire frame inside liveview's 1080p)?

In order to shoot continuous at 1080p on the 5dIII what's the minimal write speed required by my card/camera. I intend to use my card with the following specification on a 5DIII:
SanDisk extreme pro SDXC I 95MB/s 64GB class 10.

With MLV_REC.mo for 1:1 liveview (at 24fps) I have the resolution 704x704 as the only stable (under 21-22 MB/s), which is at 19.8 MB/s.

It is not working. Shooting at this resolution results also in a very cropped frame. Why is it so?
#191
Ok thanks.

So there is no setting on ML that results in capturing the entire frame?
#192
My question concerns how to record at resolution 1728x1156 as the chart states. The chart shows a blue color (signifying that it is stable). In other words, what should my options on (mL menu and canon menu) should be set at to record such a high resolution.
It states that the resolution 1728x1156 can be shot at 1:1 liveview, resulting in no crop.

From what I understand with the term no-crop, I want to shot the entire frame that I am looking at during shooting on my canon's LCD. I only get a portion of it whether I shoot at 16:9 or in 2.39:1.

Hi,

According to the chart the 600d can capture RAW 14bit with no crop at 1728x1156 at 1:1 liveview.
I have tried to change the settings to attain this resolution, but have failed. I have been able to record continuous (over 7 min) on 960x540 24fps 16:9 but the frame is very cropped. I want to minimized the cropping as much as possible, preferably null.

My interest is to capture at 16:9 or in worse case 2.39:1 at 24 fps.
What should I change on both the canon menu and on ML menu in order to be able to capture 1728x1156.

Thanks in advance.

Raw Video / Re: 600D Capabilities
February 25, 2015, 02:44:03 PM
Hi!

I have looked into the ML Raw chart that is posted on ML. The most stable setting for the canon 600d are those in green and blue. I am interested in filming in the 1:1 liveview max resolution of 1728x1156 (since it does not result in any crop).
What should be the settings in both ML menue and canon menu in order for me to shoot without any crop? How low should the fps be on ML? etc

Thanks in advance

Hi!

I have filmed an interview footage with canon 600d/T3i (latest version of magic lantern nightly builds).
When I convert the raw footage (.MLV file) to either .raw then to DNG, or directly to .dng files with MLVBrowseSharp or RAWanizer, I either get a dng folder with no dng files at all or only a few dng files, although I am supposed to get serveral thousands.

I don't understand what seems to be the problem. I do not have the opportunity to re-film the interview since it was done on a trip and the interviewed person is no longer with me.
This is really frustrating, I really need some help here.

Thanks in advance,
Ibrahim
