with my 5D3 plus the 1.2.3 firmware from august 2014 I never had one single corrupted frame! With my cam, is working perfectly

Are you sure that both cards are bootable? Have you tried both cards with magic lantern on another 60D where magic lantern works, if possible? If you could test your SD cards on another 60D running magic lantern you would know for sure if those cards are bootable or not

General Help Q&A / Rack focusing and focus peaking?
October 03, 2015, 12:27:35 PM
Hi guys, for an upcoming shoot i am fiddling around the rack focus function (never used it before :) and i noticed that while you are rack focusing you lose the focus peaking. I was wondering if there was a way around it or if it is just the way it is.

I did a bit of digging into the Q&A section, but i don't seem to have found a previous topic regarding this matter. Anyway, if turns out that you can not have Rack focusing plus focus peaking while recording i will just us the focus peaking from the monitor instead.

Thanks a lot! :)

General Chat / Re: A7RII - Sony owned everyone again?
August 08, 2015, 09:07:25 PM
I think i will get another 5D3 body when the price drop like a bomb.. Sony does some great stuff but you just can't beat the RAW.. I mean, to me, it feels like filming "film" but in digital.
Just recently i was doing some test shooting RAW with a nice Kowa 16D Anamorphic lens. After processing the footage, and grading it, honestly, it really felt like i shot that on film!

Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYUFv9R0RbI

(it's a crappy test shoot, and i did it all in davinci resolve, don't know why wuality it's only at 360 even if i rendered the video in h.264 at high quality)

What i think it's worth having from sony is the A7s. you jsut can't beat that camera in Low light, well, unless you have got the money to buy canon latest low-light camera! ;)

Thanks a lot man! It is quite reassuring to know that! :)

Am i stupid or this is an AD?
#136
if have seen many test shot token at 85mm Have you tried at 50mm? technically shooting anamorphic at 50mm with a 2x squeeze on a 4:3 dimension it should give kinda 25mm. would you mind share with us if you did? thank you :)

Hey thanks guys! I will check properly all your links! Just the other day i went in several camera shop looking for some nice vintage lens to pair with an anamorphic adapter!

Ideally, what i am looking for it would be a 24/28mm anamorphic lens or an adapter that would work with a 24mm lens. i am looking to obtain a 2.50:1 aspect ratio or something near that kind of aspect ratio. Unfortuantely, 2.35:1 "does not cut it" enough for me! :D

Thank you very much Robby, i have checked the link you posted and i am already researching the web to see if anyone sells the anamorphic lenses he shows in his videos.

with a bit of luck i will find what i am looking for! :)

Let's hope this post gets filled with time with more and more link about anamorphic alternatives! :)

Hi guys,

Recently i have been doing some test for an upcoming short film for a respected british director. Long story short, i threw the word: "anamorphic" in it and they got hooked. One little problem: The budget of this movie is too low to afford shooting with such lens, so i have been tasked to come out with some alternative.

did some researches and come out with basically this:

anamorphic filters

and

anamorphic adapters.

The fine guys at Vidatlantic: http://www.vid-atlantic.com/anamorphic/ have some interesting filters that mimic few of the great characteristics that we would like to have on our short.
Thanks to a scalpel, black cardstock, an adapter ring and fishing line we already manufactured basically the cinemorph filter, and it works a treat for bokeh and flares. thing is, we would like to have the same effect on wide lenses as well.

In this days we will be creating using the same materials a copt of this other cinemorph filter:

http://www.vid-atlantic.com/products/cinemorph-mod

basically being the same thing, only placed on the rear element.

Will post the result as soon as it's ready.

The thing is, i have been eyeing up this anamorphic adapters:

http://www.slrmagic.co.uk/slr-magic-anamorphot-133x-50-anamorphic-adapter.html

and

http://letusdirect.com/cart/letus-anamorphx-adapter.html

But they are a bit pricey.

Does any of you know any good anamophic adapter (and has experience with it possibly) worth looking at that would not rape our wallet?
Thanks in advance!

Also, i have found this tutorial that would be quite helpfull to recreate that look i am after:

http://vashivisuals.com/vashimorphic40-free-anamorphic-effects-project/

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi guys, here's the video i was telling you about of the Aputure VS-2 i hope it will be usefull:

#144
you are stuck with viewing the crop! :)

Guess it's time to invest in an external monitor? :P

A decent monitor is the Aputure vs2 good value for money

Talking about pink frames. I am using magiclantern-Nightly.2014Aug07.5D3123 Recently on a Shoot i had to record roughly 4 mins of footage (6000+ frames) was recording at a resolution of 1920x768 (aspect ratio 2.50:1) FPS 23.927 NO FPS Override.

not a single Pink Frame.

So far this nightly build works a treat. I would suggest users who are experiencing Pink Frames to try using that version.

Thanks budafilms! Little by Little and day after day i am getting more and more techincal because, quoting the GREAT Robert Rodriguez: "If you are just creative, you will need to rely on technical people. BUT if you are creative AND technical, you are UNSTOPPABLE!!"

I actually find the 5D3 with some nice L lenses to be quite sharp in all honesty! :) Also because to an extent, you don't really need such razor sharpness as long as the perceived sharpness is enough to trick your eyes, STILL that is to be taken into account regarding where your "film" will be "projected" :)

WRONG: 7th Record the image with a flat profile, in the canon menu picture style (sharpness 0, image contrast -4, image tone -2)

Picture Style is not going to work in RAW images.

Use DaVinci Resolve, and apply "sharpness".

5d Mark III never going to be to sharp.

Really? I did not know that! Care to explain me how? :)

I will post a more detailed answer with a video of the Monitor in operation, so you all will be able to see how it works and the features!

Sorry for the poor earlier reply, it was late.. and i was tired, and i just collected The monitor, so i was just checking it wasn't broken!

Will post soon a video of the VS2 in action! :)
#149
Hi guys, just wanted to let you all know that my Aputure VS 2 arrived today. I already tried it with my 5D3 and it works fine.

The only thing, and this is a question for swinxx, the playback of MLV videos is painfully slow, and it does not work on the camera when it is in mirroring mode, Is that normal, or am i doing something wrong?

Thanks!
