Share Your Videos / Consumed (BAFTA Nominee) Shot on ML now public
« on: March 31, 2021, 12:51:54 PM »
Hi everyone, a while back I posted the trailer for my film Consumed, a film shot entirely on a 5d Mark III with Magic Lantern raw. When I made this project I would never have anticipated the reaction, and since then the film has screened at festivals across the world, culminating in a BAFTA nomination for best short film in 2017 - the only doc in the category.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people at Magic Lantern, the quality of footage was crucial to capturing the essence of these places I traveled to. For a film-maker like me with no budget to speak of, it shows that with the right tools (not the most expensive!), the sky is the limit.

I hope you enjoy the film and share it on social media etc., it's a slow burner so grad a coffee and relax! :)

Hi, I didnt hve to download any LUTs online, it was the simple Alexa profile applied to footage with that is already in Resolve.

Never heard of the dark frame technique and didnt have any problems with Aliasing, I exposed for the highlights and brough up the shadows in Resolve.

Hope that helps!

Hi, thanks for the compliments. Workflow was quite simple, MLV to CDNG. Took it into Resolve and used the Alexa LUT that's in there already, and played with exposure basically. The curve was really nice and rolled off the highlights nicely. Then I made small adjustments to the grade in Premiere when the edit was locked where there were some mismatches.

The rest is the light ;)

Hi, I wanted to share with you the short documentary that I made with a 5dIII and Magic Lantern Raw. It's been quite an amazing journey since then, playing the film at film festivals and recently finding out that the film has been nominated for a BAFTA. MLRaw really helped lift the production value of the film immensely, and allowed me to work with a camera which had a very small form factor that was familiar to most people, probably relaxing them to my presence compared to a full setup. I am only able to share the trailer publically, but For those of you in the UK, you can stream the full film along with the other 7 short film nominees on Curzon Home Cinema, link below:!/film/CRZ_BAFTA_SHORTS_2017

89% funded with 40 hours to go, final push now, please consider checking it out and getting your name in the credits!

Hi Bradley, many thanks for the pledge! :D I have three lenses that I used for this, 17-40mm, 24-105mm, and the 70-300mm which I ended up using more than I would have expected, the huge scale of these places just loves the reach the 300mm gives.

One week left to go now and 50% pledged, so close now, if you'd like to see the rest of this film and hear more about how I made the film, please consider supporting a penniless student with an idea ;)

Hi Jimmy, I used RAW, For the purpose of this trailer I simply exported the files from Davinci as Pro-Res LT to work on as it gave me a quick turnaround with satisfactory results, but for the finished product I will definitely be getting the best out of RAW.

I still have to get a workflow that I'm totally comfortable with though to be honest.

Hi! Yes the trailer is just a teaser for the kickstarter campaign I'm doing so there is not really any story yet, it's just to give an atmosphere.

For the factory shots, and a couple of others, I used an x-cam sabre with a bit of stabilisation in post, (and lots of practice!) would definitely recommend it for travelling as it's very small and easily fits in a camera bag.

Hi there, I just wanted to share with the Magic Lantern community a trailer to a short documentary that I've been working on, a cinematic exploration of the manufacturing industries in China. The phenomenal work of the Magic Lantern team has really elevated the quality of this project to a huge degree.

I'm shooting on a 5d Mark III
2x Komputerbay 128gb 1050x
2x Komputerbay 64gb 1000x

This is a continuing project, If you'd like to see what I hope to be the one of the first documentaries shot fully with Magic Lantern, and a beautiful story about ho our stuff gets to us, I have a Kickstarter that is currently raising funding for the second phase of the project next month. So be sure to get your name in the credits!
