I'm currently running ML on 5D Mark III FIRMWARE Version 1.1.3. If I were to upgrade to firmware 1.2.3 and use ML on it. Would I just have reformat my card that is running ML on the 1.1.3 firmware through computer and follow the steps at the beginning of this page?

D.L. Watson I want to say thank you for making this workflow. It does save a lot of space. I have a question though. Could you do a comparison between using the Flatz ACR preset with post sharpneing and contrast on versus Tenchnicolor picture style with post sharpening and contrast on regular H.264 footage?

Thank you Komputer Bay Support for your clear answers as well. I bought a Komputer Bay 128 GB 1000X CF card last November and it still functions great. I guess mine was one of the good ones because when writing RAW video to my 5D3, it averages about 97-98 mbs. So I'll be happy to pick up a Komputer Bay 128 GB 1050X soon.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: Pomfort ClipHouse

Guys I received an email from Pompfort that the BETA of Cliphouse has been released. You need to register your email in order to get the BETA and it works until September 10, 2013. I am at work right now so not sure if the BETA improved upon the Alpha that the ML developers got a hold of. Just wanted to give you all a heads up.

Does turning on exposure override, fps override or gradual exposure affect the luma shift too? Just wondering.

I'm thinking that Pomfort might be creeping up on Davinci debayer speeds due to le GPU, so if Pomfort gets the debayering and colorimetry on par with ACR, we have ourselves a raw processing powerhouse! Also interested in seeing how it handles aliasing, FPN, random noise, the pink highlight issue, and dead pixels seen in other tools.

My GPU ain't that great. Hopefully I can get by Pompfort quick enough. ACR is pretty fast for me on my Macbook Air.

You can count me in too. I'm going to be shooting some stuff while camping this week and then I have a music video shoot the week after the next. I'd like to see how CH's debayers stack up against ACR and Resolve.

Yeah, I would love to see how the debayer is too in Pomfort. The detail, DR and color I can get in ACR is great but it is hindered by the "exposure flickering" bug in some frames when using highlight, shadow and even exposure sliders. Not to mention the slower workflow. Can't wait to try it Pomfort. I'm stoked. :D

i just wanted to post about their software.

4 days ago the devs gave us a link to the alpha4 which is mac only.
as we mostly work with win or linux, we are looking for a handful ML powerusers who want to test their alpha.

just write there and i will pick some and send the DL link

I am on a MAC as well. Would love to test it. :D

WB is ok, chroma controls appear to be ok. Contrast is ok too. Shadow and black level sliders are ok.

I can confirm with Squig. It seems like fill light, highlight recovery and recovery do cause the flicker. So far adjusting through curves is okay. However, you can't recover much through the curves method alone. It sucks that the exposure slider does cause the flicker as well. I was thinking we can try to save the highlights as much as we can through curves in ACR and then adjust the exposure in our NLE after exporting from After Effects or just nail our exposure in the ball park when filming. Any more suggestions? Even though we can't recover much to avoid the flickering, we still get the added benefit of increased resolution and finer noise I guess. It would be sweet if ACR can fix the issue with the flickering though. I can't use Resolve cause my GPU is not good enough. Maybe I will be upgrade it soon. However, I heard even the demosaic processing and highlight recovery in Resolve isn't nearly as good as ACR.

Exposure adjustments cause the flicker too.  :'(

I just tested using the curves to bring back highlights and shadows and while it does not flicker as bad, the only thing is that bringing back the highlights and shadows using the curves is a little bit inferior compared to using the sliders. Man, any more enlightenment on this issue would be helpful.

you can reover highlights by lowering exposure and then adjust curves to get the brightness back

Thanks s---70. You are right. I forgot about doing it that way. I've been tackling this with such a one dimensional mind set using fill light and shadows sliders that I forgot about playing with curves. :D

Don't use those features and it won't flicker.

I see. But then how are we suppose to take advantage of the dynamic range if we can't use those features?

It doesn't have anything to do with the aperture blades. when taking photos they move into the right diameter for every frame and it does that with slight variations. during livewiev the aperture is obviously locked so that can't be the problem. We already know the why it flickers, it's just the algorithm of camera raw that was not designed to be used with video. Just don't use ACR highlight or shadow recovery and contrast in the 2012 process in the shots where the flickering occurs.

I am using process 2010 in AE ACR 6.7 and the same flickering happens when using fill light and recovery.  Is there a workflow other than Cineform, Ginger HDR or Resolve that can process these files withoug flicker?

The flicker is driving me nuts as well. : (

I love the digital dolly feature when using the RAW video option. Is there any way we can spice it up by getting varrying speeds of the digital dolly pan like "slow" "normal" and "extra fast"?

Still lots to do on the 5DMK3 as far as the h264 encoder's concerned. Some interesting results Im testing.

What kind of results are you finding?

Just a thread to see how many people are still sticking to H.264 and their reasons for doing so. As great as RAW video is, I know there are some that might not be able to take advantage of it because of storage space or heavier workflow. There are some new great programs like this one in the link below that can get some of the dynamic range back that is lost in h.264 and can gain some sharpness as well. Not too sure how this would hold up versus using RAW but I'm guessing RAW would still beat it. Nonetheless, it could still be "good enough" that most everyday users would not notice.

I will. Thanks Alex. Does changing the exposure overide to on fix the exposure issues wheb recording in photo mode though?
#69
Alex, you had mention that when recording RAW vid in photo mode with the new build that exposure is messed up correct? Reason I record in photo mode is I get about 5 mbs faster write speed compared to movie mode. In the build you said to make sure you put on exposure override when using photo hack. Does this help correct the exposure in photo mode? Thanks.
#70
From the reading, I'm getting that this only works in live view. Am I correct on this?
#71
Thank you so much Noisyboy. Worked perfect. I can now record and convert more than 4GB now in single file. Appreciate it.

I searched the forums and read the rules so I am not certain where my question should go so I decided to start a new topic. I read somewhere that even if you format the card with ML RAW on it, that the boot-flag is still enabled. Reason I want to reformat my card is because I want to record more than 4GB through the RAW_REC module in a single file. I had this set to FAT32 when I installed ML RAW and through the reading of the forums it seems that I need to reformat my CF card in the EXFAT format to record more than 4GB in a single file. So my question is do I have to do anything different when re-installing ML RAW again in that CF card since the boot-flag is still enabled even with the prior format? Any help is great. Would love to record more than 4GB limit in a single and want to know if I can just use same procedure in installing it again as if I were installing it brand new after a format. Thanks all.
#74
So if I were to just do a regular reformat of the CF card with the 5D3 RAW firmware on it does that mean ML is still on the camera? Just wanted to ask because before installing ML RAW on my 5D3 I forgot to format it in EXFAT. Because of it I cannot record more than 4GB in the RAW_REC MODULE. If I were to format the CF card in EXFAT to enable more than 4GB recording in RAW, would I have to do anything different in installing ML RAW again in that card? Any help is great.

Thanks Renato. I won't do it again. Appreciate it.
