Hello Danne,

I just processed my dual iso DNG's in Lightroom but there is one problem. It seems that every alternating DNG has a different white balance color despite all of my DNG's being synced to have the exact same white balance. One has a green tint and the other a pink tint. Did you have this problem?

@Danne

Awesome clip!!! Whats lens did you use with the 3X crop?

Conversion works good for me to now after changing catalog.

Thanks Kapuhy for mentioning the fix.

I noticed that my issue is gone when I use a different catalog - re-import the same photos and then use the v3.0 BETA2 conversion and it works.

Just wondering how do I change the catalog?

@sanzasn12: dualiso implementation would be superhandy, with the "-same level option on" for flickerfree dngs :)
greets.

It would. The MLV 1.9.2 convert program is great but it is not using the the current cr2hdr20bit same levels algo. I tried to replace the old cr2hdr.exe with the cr2hdr20bit.exe in the tools folder of program but it didn't work.

Awesome. You think you can implement a tool for dual iso DNG processing of MLV clips shot with dual iso?
#32
Just wondering, I would like to use this app for the dual iso feature but I want to use the new cr2hdr20bit.exe same levels algorithm. I tried to replace the old cr2hdr with the new cr2hdr20bit.exe in the tools sub-folder under the MLV Converter 1.9.2 main folder and gave it a go, but didn't do the dual iso processing at all. It would be great if this could be implemented.

I'm getting an error when exporting my Dual ISO DNG sequence in LR 5.6 when using the plugin Beta 3.0 V2. It says no files converted but not errors. However, when just exporting a single Dual ISO DNG in LR it converts. I'm using Win 7.

When will 1.3 be up? Thanks for this great tool!

#define ALLOW_WRITEABLE_DNGS
at the top of the file is enough to make it "true" because we don't do:
#if ALLOW_WRITEABLE_DNGS
instead, we do:
#ifdef ALLOW_WRITEABLE_DNGS

Though, this is not really a permissions issue.  It's impossible to actually allow writing to the "virtual" DNGs, they are generated on the fly from the MLV file, but we mark them as writeable so that AE doesn't throw an error. (I'm sort of against this, which is why there is a macro that disables it). It seems that AE doesn't actually try to write to the DNGs and falls back to using an XMP, it just wants them to not be readonly.

Danne is sort of using MLVFS in a way I never intended, that is to be writing DNGs into the MLVFS. I was pretty much intending that the only DNGs would be the virtual ones created by the MLVFS, so it's interesting to me that his method works at all.

The correct thing to do would be to have cr2hdr read from the MLVFS DNGs and then write the converted DNG somewhere else outside of the MLVFS mount directory.

I will investigate this type of workflow and see what I can come up with.

I see. Aren't we basically just making physical copies of the virtual DNG's using Danne's method when we export through LR? This would reduce storage space but is great for people who like to use LR for grading their shots.

There is a save metadata function in LR. Wondering if we could use that to save the metadata of the virtual DNG's so all the settings and editing we do in LR will be the same when opening the same DNG's in After Effects.

I have used this workflow before in LR with physical DNG's and all the settings I would apply there would be the same when opening in After Effects for export. This method saves time and space instead of re-exporting the edited DNG's in LR to use in After Effects.

The reason I grade in Lightroom is because I can go through the many DNG's in an MLV clip to see which scene I want to base my color grading on. In After Effects, when you open ACR, they only give you the first DNG to do your color grading on which is not practical if it was a panning shot and you wanted to do your color grading on a scene midway through the clip. I heard there is a workaround for this by using Adobe Bridge but couldn't get it to work.

Thread starter wrote "Just started using ML today", senzazn12 chimed in and he/she is not that experienced, too. And it's quite common for humans to mix things up they are learning until they are going to use and understand them. And even more experienced users may come up with nonsense like "In addition if you think about it, switching each row of pixel sensors to different iso values as well as every 1/50th of a second flicking the whole sensor to a different iso value can't be healthy". Probably having mechanical switches in mind and not amplifiers and A/D converters.

No offense!

No offense taken. :-) Thanks for clearing things up Walter.

Here is a little workflow demonstration of using the mlvfs fuse app together with Kitchehofs app converting dual iso movie files. Fusion!

Awesome! Thanks Danne!

Sorry, I work in mac but if you get a setup done with fuse in window it should work the same. Simply select the mlvfs folder mount. Could make a tutorial for mac.

If you could that would be great since I could get the general idea.

Would also like to know how to do the same levels command in Windows? Danne you suggested just renaming the cr2hdr to cr2--same levels?

Yes, and with the lightroom app as well which is terrific :)

Danne is it possible for you to make a video tutorial on using MLVFS with Lightroom  on Windows? Willing to donate for the tutorial since it will be time and energy on your part.

Do we need to turn HDR on? Isn't that only if you wanted to record dual-iso h.264?
#42
Lets say we do a full day of shooting a mix of regular and dual iso movie clips/shots. Anyway we can differentiate between the two when post processing?
#43
Is there a way you can implement some highlight recovery or shadow lift in MLVRAWVIEWER? Wonder what some of you all are doing for highlight recovery/shadows when using this tool since I'm used to ACR.

It covers 72% NTSC color gamut which in turn covers 100% SRGB but doesn't cover ARGB all the way. I think it is only 70% to 75% ARGB. In this article it says that 72% NTSC color gamut covers the SRGB color space.

My Alienware 14 comes with an full HD IPS 1080P panel with 72% color gamut which covers 100% SRGB. Is SRGB all I need to do accurate color video editing? I do have it calibrated with a Spyder 3 and the viewing angles are excellent. IPS really is the best.

Is there a way I could use MLVFS workflow with Lightroom instead of After Effects? Don't have After Effects installed.
#47
Thanks ayshih and Frank7D

That worked perfect for me! I'm not too literate with CMD so thanks for helping me out. I'll be trying your workflow next. :D
#48
It is in my downloads folder.

When I try to register the MLVFS.DLL in command prompt I get an error saying this. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong I'm doing wrong?

It says ERROR: Unable to register formater "mlvfs.dll"

Praying this gets ported to Windows somehow.  ::)
