Let's assume we are searching for bad/pink frames and there are a FEW of them not many.

4 years ago I've had a 20 days project on 3 TB HDD which got damaged on the last day (full of footage). I didn't get a lot of experience those days, so it was the only copy.
After a month of recovery information in a local company I've got all my footage with a lot of bad frames. I had to manually cut all these frames in Premiere.

I don't know when they added it but there's a wb picker just below the wheels, next to an 'auto' button.

It is there. But I assume it's not RAW

I don't think there's any hope for accuracy once you start using colour wheels
Yes, that's always what I thought in Resolve - so I nearly never used the wheels for projects.
I'm with you guys on that thought. Ha.

What do you mean by wrong accuracy?
Can you make a color grading not changing colors, saturation, etc.? If you change anything it's already "inaccurate".
For example, how can you achieve very annoying but still very popular Hollywood filmic look with cold shadows and warm highlights without color wheels? Blue shadows, orange highlights.

Looks like ACR handles that pizza sign so much better.

Yes, this is exactly what I meant talking about "some minor differences".
Overall ACR has a look I like by default. To make the same with MLV App is a challenge for me. But I'm still trying, as I don't like the Adobe workflow at all.

What tonemapping did you use BTW?

This time I used Adobe RGB Gamut and Tonemapping is set to None (don't remember why   ;D )

In your MLV App edit, I think if you enabled highlight reconstruction, reduced the Light strength slider closer to zero and pulled the highlights down a little more, the background might look smoother (less bright).

I tried it, but didn't like the result. The blown highlight becomes - yellow/greenish and not bright enough. Doesn't look right to my taste.
And smth weird is happening to the floor reflection.

Could you please check loading avatar picture. I insert a link from https://pictshare.net/, save changes, but nothing happens. I use Chrome on Win10

Is there any way to add more grading tools?
For example, I need to lower saturation in darker areas  (Luminance vs Sat) Not sure, if the name is correct

And smth similar to 3 color wheels for Darks, Mids and Highlights. For example, if I change WB to look ok in the mids, sometimes I get greenish highlights or/and pinkish shadows. It would be nice to have such a possibility.

Is your's edited in Rawtheapee? The denoising look is not something I've seen before from mlv app.

Hi!
Mine was edited in ACR (Temp: 3600K, Tint: +9, Higlights: -52, Shadows +36, Satur -12)
But it can be easily graded close enough with MLV App. There are some minor differences which can be fixed in Davinci Resolve or any other color grading software (if needed).
Here are two samples (ACR vs MLV App):

Scripting Q&A / Re: Changing Canon's menu settings
« on: November 17, 2019, 10:50:41 PM »
Thanks! I've already been there.
I know, we can go to menu by key.press(KEY.MENU)
Navigate by key.press(KEY.WHEEL_DOWN) etc
SET and Q buttons.

But it's a blind walk.
I can command step-by-step: left-right-set-Q etc, but it won't exactly know that it changes: 1920 25 ALL-I   to  1280 50 ALL-I
If I browse through menu before, it will mess all the instructions.

p.s. Oh, I have an idea. Have to check it. I'll reply here later ;)

Scripting Q&A / Changing Canon's menu settings
« on: November 17, 2019, 08:24:34 PM »
Hi,
I'm currently trying to make my own presets for different video settings for 5dIII (inspired by Danne's cine.lua).
I've set all up in ML menu using lua script but some stuff is in Canon's menu:

I need to change: PAL to NTSC
and
Recording format: 1920 25 ALL-I   to  1280 50 ALL-I

I'm lost here.
What is the correct way to navigate through those settings?

85
So you're using the 4K version full time?

Absolutely

Well, IMO, not everything should look "natural" all the time.

You're absolutely right. Maybe I wasn't quite clear.
By natural I didn't mean "neutral" (to correct everything by WB grey card).
I meant natural looking. When I look into the picture I don't want to see a green skin tone (if there were no obvious green light), pink color shift (as in the first post), oversaturated orange face or muddy shadows. All these are catching my eye not in a good way.

88
We need someone to judge which one is better now :P

This scene is not really good for judging the colors. It's actually very difficult to make it look natural as the light sources are mixed and some colors info is missed.

Sometimes I try to make the same color grading using 3 different programs: ACR, MLV App and Resolve (for practice only). Most of the times I get the fastest and the best results with ACR and than I can easily match it with other two programs.
But in this exact shot I cannot get the same result. Close enough but not the same.
Still ACR gives me better colors out of the box than other color grading programs.

General Help Q&A / Re: IQ: EOS M or 5Diii?
« on: November 07, 2019, 12:40:25 PM »
It feels very cinematic to me.

It has nothing common with any Canon's camera. What you call cinematic here - is a color toning and some film grain. Color toning has some shift in colors so they doesn't look natural but more like a film (you can grade it manually or apply some film LUTs). Film grain can also be added in post to "glue" the footage.

crop_rec and derived builds / Re: Danne's crop_rec_4k & ISO experiments

I've got Danne's  "crop_rec_4k_mlv_snd_isogain_1x3_presets_2019Jul20.5D3113" build. If you need it I can upload it somewhere.

92
I would lower the exposure on almost every shot. It seems washed out to my taste.

I think it would be best to concentrate on the cheaper models with many users

Yes, but NO. There're already a lot of really cheap cameras with ML so you can buy a dozen of them for a change.

What ML is actually lack right now - is smth professional with better features than 5d3.
Although EOS R is more future proof for me IMO, but 5d4 is also a great candidate.

There are cameras like the BMPCC6k that do a fantastic job of providing people with what they need
BMPCC6k is good, but it's not a 5d4. Not a full frame, lack of continuous Auto-focus and it's not a camera for stills.

1. iso climb: in menu it is mentioned INFO(5D3), but it does nothing
2. x3crop toggle (halfshutter press (5d3)) in Press down or Set mode:   x10crop not compatible with x3toggle    - but i'm not in x10crop

I cannot vote in Twitter as I don't have an account there. But I'd vote for porting to new models: 5d4, R, RP etc.
As we already have old models cams for every budget, but all of them lack new technologies, such as adequate auto focus (eye focus in R series).

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: DaVinci Resolve and ML Raw
« on: September 30, 2019, 07:00:08 PM »
you should stay on 15.3.1 it is way faster and stabile compared to ver 16 with cdng.

I don't see the speed difference. The only one is 15's version uses GPU by default (a dedicated Graphic Card) and 16's ver it may choose an internal Intel GPU.
You should change it in preferences.

Lanczos, Sinc and AVIR should bring better results than bilinear/bicubic which is offered by most editors.

What about Davinci?

color graded: Davinci Resolve
editing: Premiere Pro

Thanks for sharing your video.
Why don't you edit directly in Resolve? I don't see any unique editing which is not possible in Resolve.

Win10 x64 (1903) - At the first App load I tried to import MLV and while browsing in folders the App froze for a second and crashed/closed. But in two seconds it loaded again by itself. After that I couldn't reproduce the crash and now MLV files load without problems.
But I do NOT have audio at my output although I see the visual audio lane in the timeline.

p.s. The audio works fine in Static version
