You will be limited to 1280 with 14 bit raw, but there is a build with 10 and 12 bit recording on the experiments page that should get you higher resolutions.

I will refrain from future feedings. First they grow, then they multiply.

As far as I know, the 6D Mark II does not come equipped with any sort of Dual ISO feature.  ;)

Thanks again for all your hard work! I'd make another suggestion but I honestly couldn't if I tried. This app wonderfully simplifies my workflow and is working beautifully so far!

General Chat / Re: Cinematographers on board?

Yes you can definitely save some coin and build your own lights.

I've built medium-base sockets into stainless steel bowls that work as reflectors. LED bulbs are getting quite affordable, even in dimmable varieties. You'll want to find ones that give good color and don't have a nasty green or magenta spike however.

Lighting is a subject I know a good deal about. I've done large set lighting for a few years now. Generally, different scenes will call for different lighting. Cinematographers generally rent a variety of different lights for a movie or TV show but if your keen on buying your own first kit, I would invest in a small tungsten kit. These would typically be used for indoor and night scenes where there is no daylight present. Tungsten color is 3200 degrees Kelvin while daylight is usually between 5600 and 7000 Kelvin. You don't generally want mixed lighting unless it's for an artistic purpose. I think if you could find a tungsten kit with 2 1000W lights, 2 650W lights and 2 300W lights or something similar, that would be a good cheap start. These usually have a quartz halogen bulb similar to a cheap work light except properly color balanced. LED lighting is getting very popular, as it's more energy efficient and can have different color settings built-in, but they're usually more expensive.

I'll try to summarize what I know for you. The 650D and 700D are quite similar yes. You won't get full HD Raw video in 16:9 though due to write speed limitations though. You'll get close in 10 bit raw shooting 2.35:1 if that helps. If you're on a tight budget but raw doesn't really matter to you but having ML does, I would get one of those, or even an old 600D or 550D(these are pretty useless for raw however). If Raw video is important I'd try for a 7D (original not mark 2) or even an old 50D(lower resolution). Write speeds are good due to the CF cards on these two cams. I believe the 70D has a ML alpha build but it has the same Raw capabilities as the 650D and 700D. In H.264 video though it may be the best of the bunch, as it has built-in ALL-I compression(higher bitrate). Find the sweet spot between your needs and budget and see what you get! Hope this helps.

Not a real cinematographer (other than in my own no budget projects) but I did work as an IATSE camera assistant and lighting technician for years. Depending on your question I may be able to help.

Wow. Even more incredible! Amazing work masc! Save-able sessions is genius!

It's not in the latest nightly as it's still experimental. Go to the Home Page and under Downloads click Experiments. Scroll down to 10/12 Bit recording and snag the 5D3 build.

Is there any way to adjust values by typing the desired value? Or is it slider only? That feature would be very useful for more precise adjustment.

Yes thank you tonji. Excited to test on my 50D. Did not have good luck with the 550D build, but I thought it was a common issue for Digic 4 cameras.

General Help Q&A / Re: Canon 6D Mark II CS6 Support

Yeah even with my older cameras I have to use Adobe DNG Converter. Works like a charm though.

Thank to Ilia and Masc! This is truly incredible. I think the reason people want LOG so bad may be to apply LUTS later on more easily. I can't say for certain. I would agree with you that it is awesome to be able to tune your look right in the raw processor. Maybe built-in LUT support would satisfy everyone? Thanks again though you guys this is already amazing for my use!

Not sure that anyone has a 50D build out there, but then again, I didn't know that there was a 7D build either. Neither are listed on the Experiment Downloads page.

Looks great Newpz84. Understand though, that if you shot Raw, you did not shoot Canon Prolost Flat. Picture styles have no effect on Raw image data.
#42
Thank you for the info! I will have to learn more about MLVFS. I've been using MLRawViewer to convert directly into a Log ProRes, which works best for me. Footage seems even simpler to use but the pink cast is a bummer. My exported ProRes files still have the cast. Hmm...
#43
I'm not exactly sure what you mean? This removes the pink cast?
#44
Has anyone been able to solve the magenta cast issue? Using build 153 with my 50D footage results in the same problem as the 5D2 guys. Black level issue?

Tried out dfort's latest build on the 550D. In 10 bit every second frame is perfect, but in the others only the top 3rd is correct. The bottom 2/3rds are just a repeat of the 1st frame I believe. Liveview still works great and the record times are awesome!
#46
Scroll the wheel for increments in between 1280 and 1600. Works nicely on DeafEyeJedi's latest build.
#47
Realtime, full colour Liveview monitoring indeed works for me with 10 bit raw on the 550D! Very exciting! Haven't checked the files yet however.

Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 50D

I don't have all the information you're after, but I can offer some. With a fast enough card, you'll be able to record continuous raw video at:
1568x882 (16:9) Non-Crop mode @ 25 fps (57.6 MB/s) or @ 24 fps (55.3 MB/s)
1568x668 (2.35:1) Non-Crop mode @ 25 fps (43.7 MB/s) or @ 24 fps (41.9 MB/s)
I have little experience with crop mode so I can't help there, but unfortunately there is no 50 fps on the 50D at all.
Hope this helps!

A 600D is essentially a 550D with a flip out screen. If that's the upgrade you were hoping for, then go for it. If Raw Video quality is what you're after, see if you can find either a used 7D or a 50D that fits your budget.
