Nice!

The nightlies are preferred by us regulars. Many more features/fixes and supported by the local wizards.

Looks great. Good job with the fireworks.

Hi ewinemiller,

I don't have experience doing that sort of thing, but if someone who does wants to try I would be glad to explain any of the formulas that aren't clear from the spreadsheet. The math isn't complicated.

So on 7D I can get the Canon preview to work if I have preview set to "auto" and before I press record I cycle through the various displays using the "info" key and end on Canon preview. This is while using the 5x crop mode (not sure about non-crop yet).

I just tried dfort's 12/18 7D build and 10 and 12 bit are working fine (but with grayscale preview frozen if used). What is not supposed to be working?

So I just tried the 10 and 12 bit raw with the 7D for the first time, using the 12/18 build from dfort, and I don't see any problem with the image. What defects are others finding?

General Chat / Re: Are Flat Picture Styles Snake Oil?
December 15, 2016, 06:35:47 AM
I can't give you a technical explanation, but my understanding is that a "flat" picture style will compress the image tonal range before it hits the codec, thus allowing a lower contrast look that would not be possible merely by manipulating the compressed video in post. It certainly seems to capture a different range of information (although not more information) so depending on the situation it could be a valid tool. Whenever I shoot H264 I use a flat picture style and am happy with the results.

For Reply #80:

A: 451.MO
Count = 70
Mean frames = 763

B: AAC.MO
Count = 75
Mean frames = 828

C: 2DC.MO
Count = 90
Mean frames = 832

A vs. B
T -Stat: 3.39962
Critical T: 1.66

A vs. C
T -Stat: 3.66587
Critical T: 1.65

B vs. C
T -Stat: 0.18749
Critical T: 1.65

B and C both beat A
B and C are tied

canneloni, I don't know. Are you opening the image sequence in After Effects and making the white balance change in the Camera Raw window that opens up there?
#61
Test.

A: 2AB.MO
Count = 48
Mean frames = 967

B: 47E.MO
Count = 72
Mean frames = 968

A vs. B
T -Stat: 0.015784
Critical T: 1.66

T -Stat is less than Critical T, so A and B are tied.

Canon Amateur, if you don't mind my asking, what build did you use?
#66
Posting an example would help.

Any anamorphic shooting will not allow you to record more information, but gives you a different aspect ration without losing information (as you would if you cropped the top and bottom of a normal clip).

Set design. Take a look at most classic movies and you will notice that every detail that appears in frame--including the color scheme--is carefully controlled and serves a purpose. I was recently looking at frames from "Naked Lunch" and it was almost funny how many elements were red in color, down to the numbers printed on a glass vial. Before you press the record button, the scene in front of your lens should be as carefully composed as a painting, if you want that "real movie" look.

Roberto Mena, I don't know what is causing that, but a picture profile will not affect raw footage.
#70
I guess he had to; no audio with RAW.

Yes, but of course it is a crop of the actual frame. I use the greyscale preview to check the framing and turn it off before I begin recording.

_OLLE_,

The processor is probably getting overloaded. I used to get that result ("frame tearing") when I used the grayscale preview (for true framing). I haven't used it since and haven't had the issue.

"...why is there a board for ML?"

If nothing else, it gives you an outlet to whine.
#74
I love the look! Very involving.

Have you tried transferring and playing the MLV files on your computer?

The tiny .M0x files are probably nothing. They usually result from the recording ending abnormally, so that they are not correctly deleted (but if they are larger, then they are a normal part of shots that last more than 4 GB on FAT32 cards).
