Thanks very much. Unfortunately that along with global draw and crop marks won't stick when i turn off then back on the camera. Each time i have to re-set them. Thoughts? I'm using the May 7 nightly build.

Thanks

is there a way to change the focal distance readout in ML from cm to ft?

Just installed 1.2.3 on my Mark III and have had no problems shooting etc. One thing however i've noticed is that when i plug in my HDMI monitor and turn on my camera i do not get my ML. It seems to default to the normal Canon video monitor screen. I was able to access the ML settings by hitting the trash can but that's about it.

thoughts?

Thank you JR. I mostly used the 5D mark iii but also the 550D when I had limited time and needed to use 2 cameras. Regarding the build, do you mean which Magic Lantern firmware build did I use?

Yes please.

great work. which camera and build?

Thanks, so to start when i format the SD card before putting ML on it I'll do it in the camera as suggested on previous posts.

After reading through a few posts i thought we should be formatting all cards in the camera, is this not correct?

Anybody in the NYC area using the latest build with their Mark III that I can speak with directly. I'd love to ask a few direct questions to someone with experience using ML in my area.

Thanks,

once ML is installed successful, can you opt to use it or not when you turn on the camera or if the SD card with ML is in the camera will it always boot up with ML? I remember using the previous firmware you had to hit the trash can etc. Is all that still necessary?

Thanks

I would have to agree. I have no knowledge of code or any of the inner workings of how any of this stuff actually works. Most of us are used to a button that says install on a Mac or PC and the rest is done for you. I would love to take advantage of ML but I always wondered why there are no official ML videos on the site that just take a novas step by step through the setup process from downloading the proper build to formatting cards all the way through shooting.

I've written step by step instructions on something in my field for people who have no experience doing what I do and I always have to be wary that they don't know as much as I do, and can't interpret or fill in the blanks like I would. I have to make sure that every step is "dummy proof" and listed out.

I've been searching through forum postings for months now and I'll be honest, I still don't feel 100% comfortable giving it a try. Perhaps it's just me, but i'm sure there are others out there who'd love to take advantage of this awesome feature but just aren't savvy enough to jump right in, especially when a Mark III costs over 3k.

were you mostly using available light? I noticed you shot during magic hour a lot. Did you use any filters?

Also, were there any issues using ML RAW during the shoot or did everything go very smoothly?

Thanks

That was very nice. Can you provide a list of the equipment you had on the shoot.

Thanks

Thanks:) I guess I'll be willing to take the plunge when it's done. I'm sure nothing would happen if i went for it now, but for some reason with this i'm risk averse. I think an updated CPU will be in order anyhow to process the RAW files.

When you say there is no problem running the Alpha build what are you referring to actually? Any thoughts on when a stable version for the Mark iii will be available?
#41
Thanks very much, i'm slowly gaining more confidence and understanding.

Just so i understand, the boot flag isn't something that is on the card with the ML files, it's actually imparted on the camera itself once i install ML? If i remove the ML SD card and restart the camera it will still start up slowly in photo mode?

One quick additional question after looking at the link you provided above. What does "bootflag cannot be undone" mean exactly? BTW, i will be recording at 24fps not 29.97 for my work.

5D3 is best and working very good.  Continuous recording at 1920x1080 up to 29.97 fps  (Bootflag cannot be undone, this increases wake up time from 0.2 to 2 sec)

Thanks

Thanks Renato, I'll continue to do some digging and research. BTW, one question I had that I'd really like to get an answer for is what version of ML should i be using for my Mark iii? I know there isn't a stable build yet but is there something close that as a new, first time installer I should use?

Thanks very much.
Happy Holidays.

Greeting, I'm new to ML and this forum. I have a mark iii and I would love to try out the features of ML on it, however I have not seen a stable release for the Mark iii and I'm hesitant to play around too much with a new camera. I'm sure these questions have been asked and answered a million times but please indulge me and let me know what I should be doing as a mark iii owner if I want to use ML with the least amount of potential issues.

One thing I've noticed is that there is no one way to install, at least from the various videos and posts i've read. Is there a definitive install guide or tutorial out there for the mark iii that i should be following?

When i add ML to my camera do I need to leave the card in the camera all the time? If I were to remove it and start up my camera again would it revert back to the normal cannon functions as if it were out of the box? If not what is the best way to jump back and forth, if I want, from ML and the standard cannon functionality?

Will having ML on my camera effect my ability to shoot stills in a negative way? I use my camera for both stills and video so it's important that i can work with both easily. I know that I have to revert back to an earlier firmware, will this have a major effect on my ability to shoot stills? Though i did update the firmware when i got my camera, i'm not exactly sure what the updates it made are.

Lastly, I use external mics hooked into a small external mixer that feeds into the camera. Are there any audio issues I should be aware of using ML?

Thanks so much for your help.
