Toshiba 1066x claims to have 150Mb\s write speed, Transcend 1000x also might be worth checking as it should be capable of ~120Mb/s
Toshiba is the second largest producer of flash cards after SanDisk so it doesn't sound unreasonable. They have also developed the worlds fastest SD cards with write speeds over 250 MB/s (too bad Canon's SD slot is limited to 20MB/s).

This is one case where the speed of the card is greatly superior to any device capable of supporting it. Lets  just hope Canon gets the memo come the release of 5D Mk IV.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: Best CF USB 3 Card Reader

Is there any general consensus on what the best CF card readers are out there? Particularly for UDMA-7 Komputerbay 1000X and above cards?

I read that Lexar readers could create some corruption in some of the cards. I've been using this guy for a while with no issues:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036DDXUW/ref=oh_details_o04_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works well but I've been wanting to move to USB 3 for faster transfer speed, been contemplating this one:

http://www.amazon.com/PixelFlash-No-Bend-Compact-SuperSpeed-Adapter/dp/B005IMFX2K/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1388469189&sr=8-6&keywords=cf+usb+3.0+card+reader

Any thoughts or recommendations for any other readers?

Many thanks!
Yes, this is the best and fastest (UDMA 7) reader currently available:

I've been having reasonably good luck with the 32GB Transcend 1000x, was going to try out a KB card but the Transcend was on sale at B&H for $85 with a free reader so I went for it. The reader is the Transcend USB3 one, which is UDMA-7 compliant. So far I've been able to capture at 1728x972 (on a 7D, of course) continuously, with Global Draw off. The Warm Up card option seems to help as well. I hear a lot of debate about the KB vs the Lexars, but not many people talking about these cards. Probably because they're terrible and I've made a huge mistake, but I'll live with it.
There's no grade on these cards but if they were I'd be B. Its not that they're bad, since many cards can be faster than the devices you put them in. But its just that they're not good enough. And in cases where you may push them to the limit, they fail.

The higher priced cards cost more because they're the cream of the crop; and give you the highest cap even though you may not use it.

One things for sure, quality control goes a long way in the manufacture of these cards. In the lesser manufacture, ome come out good, some not so good. Since they don't throw anything away, you get the savings.

Thanks a lot Krane.

Here in italy Sandisk is 3 times the price of a KB, does it really worth?
They are when your work really counts; and they're just as expensive where I am. The point is, everyone wants to cut costs, but what good is that if you end up riddled with card problems or worse, losing all your data?

A better route would be to have the KB around for your daily non-critical work, but keep a higher level Lexar or two (or Sandisk), card around for when it really counts.

We all know we're in a transition with ML, so isn't that enough to think about without having to worry about the consistent quality of your cards as well?

General Help Q&A / Re: ML Firmware Not Showing in 5dmkiii

Feedback please?  Did you install?
I did, and it worked just as you said. I'm guessing he was as terrified as me since I was at the same point and asked the same question in this thread.

In any event, I moved forward and low and behold I got ML installed!

You did not mention anything about setting the bootflag on the camera.  You only mention making the SD card bootable.  If your SD card contains the 5D3-113-bootflag.fir file then you have to go to the Canon firmware screen and press the set button to update the firmware.
That's because I was afraid to. After I didn't get the same screen shown in the video, I figured I'd done something wrong.

However, after about a half dozen repeats of the setup procedure to verify that I hadn't missed anything, and many hours of pacing after that, I finally got up the courage to hit the set button and ML was installed!  ;D

Now comes the arduous task of figuring out how to operate it. I'm sure I'll be chiming in regularly from this point on. Thanks so much for your help.

My issue is a filed install of ML Alpha 3 on my 5D MkIII. I followed the step-by-step tutorial of Charlie Locke's on youtube. My install used the files compiled in his dropbox.

I verified that all the files were present. My camera was updated with firmware 1.1.3. I formatted my new working Sandisk EP 32GB card in camera. I then imitated the EOScard program and with all the boxes check, I pressed the ML logo > Write successful! > Save.

I place the card in the camera and switched it on as normal and scrolled to format tab. The firmware screen did not show any of the additional ML information after the firmware as seen in the video. All that was there was the original current firmware version 1.1.3.

Any suggestion on how or why the ML did not show?

Well if price is no object then Sandisk tops the charts for its quality control. But there are many levels of card so choose wisely.

Chose Extreme Pro for the top of the line, and even then take care to assure that its the latest edition. Some seller will sell you the right level card but not the latest edition which is a bit faster. Lexar is next in line.
