Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: MLVProducer
December 30, 2016, 07:53:56 PM
@AWPStar
I'm trying to use MLVProducer to convert MLV files to DNG pictures.
I think this software is perfect for my workflow (great work!!) :)

I'm using FRSP and saving in MLV format.

I produce a MLV sunset timelapse file instead of 200 single dng file (just to experiment about reliability of FRSP).

The resulting files is more than 4 Gb.

MLVProducer (mlvp.alpha.build2679.INTEL) load quickly the file and I can change all parameters, but when I try to render in CDNG or DNG or TIFF I get this error (division by 0) and the program crash:

From log
Error:
Method: RenderToCDNG
Line: 18
Number: 11
Description: Divisione per zero
Error:
Method: RenderTask
Line: 10
Number: 11
Description: Divisione per zero

If I choose png the program work OK.

MLVFS works ok on this file.

I hope this information is enough to find the "bug".  :-[

I'll try to resume:
0) I choose a manual lens data from script
1) CR2: works OK with XMP sidecar generated by script.
That means I can record the exposure exif data of manual lens and when load the pictures on Adobe Bridge or ACR I have all exposure data, time, aperture and ISO.
2) FULL SILENT PICTURE
a) Mlv format works OK  with Mlvfs. That means: the exif data embedded into dng single shots are correctly passed from script to mlv to dng.
b) DNG format: the single DNG picture doesn't have the right exif data.

I don't use the exif data for geometric correction.

I try for Samyang 14 mm a lcp profile created for  EOS 650. Edit it for EOS 700. ACR is able to use it but I don't know if is right.

I tried with Bridge and LRTimelapse.
The xmp sidecar generated from script is correctly loaded.
All lens data are present and if I change manually the data, into the xmp, Bridge load the new data without problem.

I tried MLV with MLVFS and it's ok.

Thanks DFort  :D

I take hundreds of shots using manual lens with time exposure > 10 s up to 60s for nightly timelapse and load them to LRTimelapse or other software.
My goal would be take "dng Silent pictures" to save shutter wearing
Unfortunately  "dng" silent pictures do not save aperture or time or ISO into exif data.

I try xmp sidecar with CR2 and it work because when I load to LRTimelapse the aperture is correctly loaded

I try to use MLV format (but it is risky) when I deflate into dng files I could find the right lens desciption string and using ExifToolGui I can batch change into all dng files.

Thanks DFort :)

I compiled both branches you suggest and try both them.
I add Samyang 14mm and an old Sigma 28mm to the list just begin to try.

They both work for MLV (silent) and CR2 still pictures (with xmp sidecar file). I will wait for DNG files with correct exif data. :)

ui.lua: I found 2 little error at row 25 ("utton" instead of "button") and row 50 ("b" instead of "self"). Otherwise the lua editor doesn't work.

Dear all,
I'm an absolute beginner in lua scripting.
You are doing a great job!

I use some manual lens for astrophotography timelapse and I'll love the possibilities to set manually the exif data to avoid to do it in post.

I'm trying to use lua.mo module. All default scripts work without problems.

Then I try to load into my 700D ML card the "lens" lua scripting (adding also ui, config, xmp into library directory) but it doesn't work properly.
I cannot set the lens (I add also the name of my lens copying from this tread Samyang parts)

I find the "Lens Info Prefs" in the Prefs Menu, then "Manual lens" Option, but if I press "set" nothing appear :-\

I have tried a nightly 2016Nov30 " Genuine" and also a self compiled

Do you know if this script work in EOS 700D?

Thanks

josepvm,
Tried the last silent.c that you share including EOS 700D ..... all is working!!

using intervalometer, bulb 60 s

FRSP BULB MODE is ok
saving DNG is ok
saving MLV is ok

This could be the best feature for astrophotography toghether intervalometer because we save the shutter a lot. We take for just 1 final picture up to 100 x 120s shots (light+ dark + flat +darkflat+bias frame).

Now I will  test the reliability, especially saving in MLV format

Thanks again

Thanks a lot josepvm!!

I'll try to compile and use it.

You are great guy!
#36
Dear all,
is it possible to use FRSP bulb mode with EOS 700D?

I need up to 5 minutes exp time for astrophotography

I'm able to compile but I don't know if the actual code work with this model.

Thanks a lot for your hard job.

Very useful GUI guys! :)
Simple and complete.

Could you do the same for mlv_dump?

Cheers

Hello everyone,

I buy a 700D and try to remove the pink/blue dots from raw video using PDR 0.8 but without any result.
At moment the best is CS2x2 that remove all or near all dots.
I mainly use ML for astrophotography and video on planets, moon and sun (a-alpha).
This last application could be very interesting using ML raw 14 bit video (on the planet not more than 640x640 - the planet are very small also with 5 meters of focal length) but this damned pink/blue dots are very annoying.

I try also to know better the ML option on 700D.
I experiment with "Movie crop mode" option on MOVIE tab.
I found (probably you know before that) that it took movie exactly 1720x979 expanded digitally to 1980x1088.
This is just a mere 10% and if you increase the CBR factor to reduce the compression you get a good 8 bit MOV video ready to use and without pink/blue dots.

Why in this 1.1:1 pixels crop mode we don't get pink/blue dots? The little (10%) interpolation cancel them?
The 70D has the same Pink Dot problem?

Hello everyone!
I've just buy a 700D and installed ML.
Until now I experiment ML using an old 500D and compiling myself.
I use ML mainly for astrophotography.
I ask you about the FPS OVERRIDE function.
In my submenu I don't find the "High FPS" option -- High FPS - changes FPS without altering shutter speed and allows a slight overcranking (60D, 600D).

Is This function only for 60D and 600D? :-[

Thanks

In the filemanager module It will be useful to add a feature for create new directory in which put all pictures by subject or by date.
It needs also a keyboard to write the name of directory or comment on the pictures or video.
I found very useful the feature of MLV that now can create automatically a new directory for each new video.

I'm using a VirtualBox  Linux Mint 17.1 32 bit Mate desktop (based on Ubuntu 14.04) machine

After running the prepare.ubuntu.sh script it works very fine for compiling full-silent-pics branch for my old 500D :D

Raw Video / Re: 650D/T4i Raw Video
December 01, 2013, 12:35:50 PM
Dear All,

I hope that you could help me and also I hope this is the right place to ask this.

I want to buy a 650D  for Astrophotography (Sun, Moon and planets) using the 14 bit raw video crop mode capability, substituting the old 8 bit 10 fps 640x480 webcam.

I have a 500D but unfortunately somethings is not working.

My wish could be a 1024x1024 at >24 fps (1024x1024 is the minimum size to get full sun disk with my H-alpha solar telescope at direct focus without barlow lens or eyepiece projection)

I need to know before to buy the 650D (for sure)
1)  if the mlv_play module works (if it's possible to review the raw video stored in the SD card) - in 500D is not working
2) if the liveview is working during raw video recording - in 500D is not working
3) the maximum x_res and y_res and frame rate obtainable (es at 1024x1024 what is the max frame rate? Is it possible get 30 or more fps?) in 500D there is a 508 y_res limit

4) Intervalometer and bulb timer are working? - I use them a lot
5) LCD sensor remote is working? - I use it a lot to substitute the remote shutter

Thanks to all developers for the amazing ML firmware!  :)

4) What are the current issues (what is not working yet) in 650D?

5)
#44
Yes
I use the term 5x not related to the FL but only to point out that we need to press the 5x zoom button and see "5x" on the live view.
I don't use the term "crop factor" because  is related to the actual horizontal resolution and then is variable.

Jupiter with 3÷7 m of focal lenght stays quite well in 640x480 pixel frame (crop factor 7.4) but we need a very high fps to avoid blurring caused by planet rotation when we stack all the frames.

640x480 is useless for normal daily life

What is necessary is to get a 1:1 sensor pixel frame.

5D3 or 7D are quite expensive and also heavy and stay in my dreams

50D coud be a good target (it has CF)

There is someone that has a 600D or 650D that could try the max size frame and fps at 5x?
Could these cameras get 1024x1024 at 30 or more fps?

Is just the 500D that freeze the live view during recording raw video or there are others camera?
Is just the 500D that hangs when try to review (playback) the recorded raw video?

However live view freezing In astrophotography is not a big problem (the subject has to stay immobile). :D

Raw Video / Re: 500D Live View Freezes
October 12, 2013, 10:10:53 PM
Please could you reconsider 500D?

It allow to get beatiful crop (5x zoom 1:1 pixel) video for planetary astronomy.
This field do not require large frame size (for planets other than Sun and Moon)
640x480 22 fps 14 bit raw uncompressed video, is amazing!

I can record up to 1344x504 17 fps continuous 14 bit raw video and nowadays a dedicated video planetary 694x576 12 bit camera costs starting from 1000€

Please coul you solve the live view bug on 500D?  ;)

#46
Dear all,

I'm very grateful to the magic lantern developers  :)

It reveals a new way to take planetary video.
Nowadays a dedicated 12 bit video camera for planetary astronomy could be quite expensive and required a computer with fast usb2 or usb3.

A huge step up compared to 8 bit compressed video from camera (640x480 60 fps 550D, 60D) or using PC software to grab live view in 5x (crop) mode.

After loaded magic lantern nightly build and activated the 14 bit raw module on my 500D I'm able to record in 5x zoom mode lots of different size frame at true 1:1 pixel resolution, the only one useful for planetary video.

I have a 32 Gb SD SanDisk Extreme 45 Mb/s (do not use Sony SDHC UHS-I 94 Mb/s, it's slow!)

The 1:1 pixel 14 bit raw frame I got (I compare them with CR2 frames) was:

Continuous video (max 4 Gb) - However in planetary astronomy is not important to record continuous video, 1000 to 2000 frames is enough.

640x480        22 fps   OK
704x470        22 fps   OK
960x480        22 fps   OK
1280x480       18 fps   OK
1344x504       17 fps    OK  (1000 frames =1.1 Gb)
------------------------------------------------------------------
1152x490       22 fps OK but just 1100 frames (19.1 Mb/s)
1344x504    22 fps OK but just 300 frames

In 5x mode (1:1 pixel) the VERTICAL limit seems 510 pixels (is it an hardware limit?).
If I try to set a vertical resolution > 510 the frames was corrupted.

I'M INTERESTED TO KNOW ABOUT OTHERS CAMERA PERFORMANCE IN 5X MODE

Can them get larger size frames or faster fps?
